  • Patent number: 5321421
Abstract: A portable electronic device can receive and transmit lower-case letter codes while it displays only upper-case letters. The device stores data received from a superior model as they are in a RAM. When data display is performed, a CPU determines whether or not each of letter codes contained in the data read out from the RAM is a lower-case letter code. If a current letter code is a lower-case letter code, then the CPU selects an upper-case letter code corresponding to the lower-case letter code and then reads out a character code corresponding to the selected upper-case letter from a ROM for display of the upper-case letter on an LCD. If a current letter code is an upper-case letter code, a character code corresponding to the upper-case letter code is read out from the ROM for display of the upper-case letter. When received data are reversely transmitted to the superior model, the original data containing the lower-case letter codes are simply transmitted as they are.

  • Patent number: 5319581
Abstract: A data world times clocking includes a main clock for clocking a reference time and prestorage memory for prestoring names of cities in various time zones in the world and a time difference between the reference time and a standard time for each of the various cities. An input device permits an operator to specify a time difference and a name of a city other than the names of various cities prestored in the prestorage part. Upon such specification of the time difference, a readout device calculates a standard time based on the time difference and reads out the calculated standard time and one of the prestored names of cities which exist in the same time zone. Upon entry of the name of a city other than the names of various cities prestored in the prestorage means, the read-out name of a city is replaced with the name of a city entered through the input device. A display displays the replaced city name and the calculated standard time.

  • Patent number: 5155815
Abstract: A computer or calculator which can use a retrieved data in any position of an expression. The computer has a calculation mode and a data retrieval mode, and comprises an X register for an input data, and a Y register for an operand. In the computer, the contents of the X register is loaded into the Y register when a predetermined key operation is conducted in the calculation mode, and then the mode of the computer is set to the data retrieval mode. A retrieved data is loaded into the X register, and the mode of the computer returns to the calculation mode.
