  • Publication number: 20060113895
Abstract: A light emitting device utilizes multiple layers of quantum dots to convert at least some of the original light emitted from a light source of the device to longer wavelength light to produce an output light. The light emitting device is made by forming the multiple layers of quantum dots over a light source and then forming an encapsulant over the multiple layers of quantum dots. The multiple layers of quantum dots can be used to produce broad-spectrum color light, such as white light.

  • Publication number: 20060103589
Abstract: A device and method for providing illuminating light utilizes quantum dots to convert at least some of the original light emitted from a light source of the device to longer wavelength light to change the color characteristics of the illuminating light. The quantum dots may be included in the light source, a light panel and/or an optional interface medium of the device.

  • Publication number: 20060081862
Abstract: A device and method for emitting output light utilizes both quantum dots and non-quantum fluorescent material to convert at least some of the original light emitted from a light source of the device to longer wavelength light to change the color characteristics of the output light. The device can be used to produce broad-spectrum color light, such as white light.

  • Publication number: 20060071593
Abstract: A method for packaging a light emitting device, in which a primary light generator, such as a light emitting diode semiconductor die or laser diode, is attached to a lead frame and covered with a body of phosphor material so as to form a predetermined thickness of phosphor material covering the primary light generator. The body of phosphor material may be contained in a substantially transparent container or preformed, compressed disc. The resulting light emitting device has a primary light generator covered by phosphor material that is constrained to have a predetermined thickness.

  • Publication number: 20060066210
Abstract: A light emitting device in which a primary light generator, such as a light emitting diode (LED) or laser diode, is operable to emit a primary light that is received by a body of wavelength converting material. A portion of the primary light is absorbed by the body of wavelength converting material and is emitted as secondary light. The wavelength converting material contains phosphor nano-particles and larger phosphor particles. The phosphor nano-particles prevent transmission of primary light while the larger phosphor particles provide efficient light conversion.

  • Publication number: 20060038198
Abstract: A device and method for producing output light having a wavelength spectrum in the visible wavelength range and the infrared wavelength range uses a fluorescent material to convert at least some of the original light emitted from a light source of the device to longer wavelength light to produce the output light. The light source may be configured to generate light having a peak wavelength in an ultraviolet-and-visible wavelength range. The fluorescent material may include any combination of red, green, blue and yellow phosphors.

  • Publication number: 20060006793
Abstract: A light-generating device includes a light-emitting device emitting light with a wavelength in the range of 160 nm to 290 nm. White light emitting phosphor material is placed in proximity of the light-emitting device.
