Patent number: 6386861Abstract: A safety lighter having a safety switch which prevents ignition of the lighter by automatically blocking the activation trigger from returning to a pre-ignition position and in turn prevents the piezoelectric actuator from returning to a pre-ignition position after the activation trigger has been urged to an ignition position. The safety switch has a slanted member having an engagement surface and a sliding surface, and a U-shaped sliding slot member having a resilient pane, a guide arm, a blocking surface, and a safety trigger. The safety switch allows ignition of the lighter only after the safety trigger is urged upward such that the activation trigger and the piezoelectric actuator return to their pre-ignition positions.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Polycity Enterprise LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 6352429Abstract: A safety lighter with improved rotary wheel hoods surrounding the striker wheel. The hoods must be urged downwardly and simultaneously rotated to engage and rotate the striker wheel. By varying the arrangement of the annular inner and outer surfaces of the hoods having either smooth surfaces or protuberances thereon with the annular unrecessed lateral portions of the striker wheel having either smooth surfaces or protuberances thereon, a multiplicity of embodiments may be achieved. Each embodiment requires a varying level of downward pressure and rotational forces to cause the lighter to spark and ignite.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Polycity Enterprise LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 6315550Abstract: A lighter safety system which in a first “safety on” position prevents the ignition of the lighter by not releasing gas when the trigger is pulled. The simultaneous downward depression of a safety switch with the operator's thumb and the rearward depression of the trigger by the operator's fingers (of the same hand) allows the lighter to ignite. A safety gas lever in the housing is pivotable when a positioning pillar in the housing is depressed. A yoke on one end of switch lever engages the neck of a gas nozzle. Depression of the switch lifts the nozzle to release gas. The simultaneous depression of the trigger activates the ignition system; thereby igniting a flame.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2000Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Polycity Enterprise LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 6086359Abstract: A lighter safety system which in a first "safety on" position prevents the ignition of the lighter by blocking the depression of the lighter trigger. The simultaneous forward engagement of a safety pin with the operator's thumb and the rearward depression of the trigger by the operator's fingers (of the same hand) allows the lighter to ignite. The safety pin is pivotable about a positioning pillar in the housing. A hook on one end of switch engages on slanted slot in the trigger to prevent depression of the trigger until the pivotable switch pin is urged forward.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1999Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Polycity Enterprise LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 5846069Abstract: A lighter including a lighter body containing fuel which is released through a nozzle. An actuating lever is placed on a mounting frame which is disposed on top of the lighter body. Activating the actuating lever causes fuel to flow through the nozzle. A striker rotatably mounted on the mounting frame is engaged to a piece of flint wherein rotating the striker against the piece of flint causes a spark to be generated, which ignites the fuel and causes a flame. A rotatable wheel hood having a safety position and an activation position is placed over the striker whereby placing the rotatable wheel hood in the safety position prevents the user from rotating the striker and causing a spark to be generated. Placing the wheel hood in the activation position allows the user to rotate the striker to generate a spark.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1996Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignees: Polycity Industrial Limited, Tak Fi International (Holdings) LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 5788476Abstract: A gas lighter uses the depression of an actuation lever to trigger a piezoelectric generator to generate a current and raise a gas lever to allow the flow of gas through a nozzle. The current is conducted to the nozzle to ignite the gas. A slider, movable towards and away from the body of the lighter is engaged with the actuating lever to not allow the actuating lever to be depressed when the slider is away from the body of the lighter. The engagement is by means of a pair of resilient fingers of the slider and pair of sliding surfaces on the actuating lever.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1997Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignees: Polycity Industrial Ltd, Tak Fi Int'l. Patent number: 5769625Abstract: A safety lighter with an improved striker wheel and striker wheel mounting frame. The lighter has an igniter having a striker wheel which rotates about an axis in response to force applied to the wheel by a user's finger. The annular recessed center portion of the striker wheel's outer annular surface has protuberances formed thereon (or grooves formed therein), while the annular unrecessed lateral portions of the striker wheel's outer annular surface are smooth. Further, the striker wheel is mounted to the lighter in slots. The striker wheel is pressed from a first position having insufficient spring force to cause the lighter flint to spark when the striker wheel is rotated into a second position having sufficient spring force to cause the lighter flint to spark when the striker wheel is rotated.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: June 23, 1998Assignees: Polycity Industrial Limited, Tak Fi International (Holdings) LimitedInventor: Tak Chi Sher

Patent number: 5704776Abstract: A safety lighter is disclosed. The lighter comprises a lighter body, a nozzle, a mounting frame disposed on the lighter body, and an actuating lever which is reciprocatingly mounted on the mounting frame between forward and rearward positions. The front end of the lever grips the nozzle and moves it from its lower position, where gas cannot escape from said nozzle, to the nozzle's upper position where gas is ejected from said nozzle. The rear end of the lever has a downwardly extending projection which can be received into a recess in the top of the lighter body when the lever is in the forward position. When the lever is in the rearward position and the rear end of the lever is pressed downward, its projection comes into vertical engagement with the top of the lighter body, which prevents the lever from pivoting far enough to lift the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1993Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Assignees: Polycity Industrial Ltd., Tak Fi International (Holdings) Ltd.Inventor: Tak Chi Sher
