  • Patent number: 5579901
Abstract: A molded plastic current limiting circuit breaker includes an interrupter assembly that includes an over-molded magnet, arc stack, baffle stack, and a chamber liner in which a trip unit is described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 13, 1995

  • Patent number: 5486666
Abstract: The present invention provides a cover for an exposed electrical terminal mounted on an electrical distribution device. The cover includes a generally planar body member having sufficient size to substantially cover the exposed terminal. The cover demountably secures to the device so that contact with a person's finger or equipment is prevented while access to the remainder of the device is allowed. The body is manually attached and detached from the device. The cover is also integrally formed with the body. The present invention also includes a method of safely protecting an exposed terminal mounted on an electrical distribution device. The method includes the step of demountably securing a cover to the device so that contact with a person's finger or equipment is prevented while access to the remainder of the device is allowed. The cover is manually attached and detached from the device.

  • Patent number: 5444424
Abstract: For a circuit breaker a trip solenoid assembly is provided for initiating separation of a pair of contacts within the circuit breaker. The trip solenoid assembly incorporates a solenoid having a metal sleeve with a plunger that moves reciprocatingly within the metal sleeve. A cap is disposed at one end of the plunger having a tab extending therefrom with a tab aperture therein. The plunger has a slot defined by a pair of prongs for receiving the tab, the pair of prongs each have a plunger aperture therein. A retaining pin located within the cap aperture and the plunger apertures retains the cap on the plunger together. The retaining pin retains the cap to the plunger in such a way as to allow the cap and the plunger to have relational movement with respect to each other. A compression spring is positioned between the solenoid and the retaining pin for biasing the plunger in a direction away from the solenoid so that when the solenoid is energized the plunger will move in a direction away from the solenoid.

  • Patent number: 4506246
Abstract: An interlock assembly for a high amperage molded case circuit breaker is provided with a slide biased to interfere with movement of a push to close link whose operation enables discharge of the breaker closing spring. The slide is operated by the toggle assembly in the event the contacts are open to permit operation of the link except if the breaker is being tripped or held tripped. A trip solenoid of the permanent magnet type is reset, when tripped, by a reset spring under control of blade carrier which has excess energy available.

  • Patent number: 4491709
Abstract: A high amperage molded case circuit breaker utilizing a ratchet adapted to be operated manually or electrically and carrying a spring biased clutch connecting the ratchet to a crank for rotating the crank to tense a helical closing spring. The ratchet is disconnected from the crank when the closing spring has a predetermined tension by a crank operated trip assembly while the closing spring axis passes close to the crank axis to exert a relatively low torque on the crank. The crank rotates a handle positioner to prevent manual operation of the ratchet after the spring is tensed, while electrical operation of the ratchet continues until a switch located in any one of a large variety of positions terminates electrical operation.
