  • Patent number: 6261654
Abstract: A composite resin film enabling a severe forming processing, in which a drum portion or a can is made thinner than a conventional one when the resin film coats a metallic sheet to be formed into a can, maintaining a favorable flavor even when time elapses after contents are filled in the resulting can, and having a high impact resistance which makes the film free from crack even if the resin film is acted on by an impact from outside before and after the filling of contents, and a metallic sheet coated with the resin and having a laminated structure of the composite resin film. The metallic sheet coated with the composite resin film is such that a resin having three layers, an upper layer composed of a resin entirely composed of polyester resin, an intermediate layer composed of a blended resin containing polyester resin and polycarbonate resin, and a lower layer composed of a blended resin containing polyester resin and polycarbonate resin, is laminated on a metallic sheet.

  • Patent number: 5234516
Abstract: A polyethylene film is heat bonded to a metal sheet provided with a layer of hydrated chromium oxide, and possibly a layer of metallic chromium under the oxide layer. The laminated metal sheet is then rapidly quenched, and the polyethylene laminate is irradiated with an electron beam, gamma rays, or X-rays. Alternatively, the polyethylene film may be irradiated prior to lamination. The laminated metal sheet exhibits excellent resistance to steam and hot water and does not delaminate during forming operations such as can-making.

  • Patent number: 4459335
Abstract: Process of producing metal-resin composite, and the composite resulting therefrom, are provided. The process comprises providing a solution or dispersion of a resin, for example, an epoxy resin, said solution or dispersion having dispersed therein at least one particulate metal compound, for example, an oxide, of the Group I A and II A metals of the Periodic Table, the amount of metal compound being 1-500 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of resin, then coating the solution or dispersion on a metal substrate and heating the coated substrate to evaporate the solvent for the resin and cure the resin. The resultant metal-resin composite is corrosion resistant, especially under acidic conditions, since the resin layer having the Group I A or II A metal compound dispersed therein serves to control the pH on the surface of the metal substrate to within the range of from 4 to 12 under acidic conditions in the atmosphere surrounding the metal-resin composite.
