Abstract: An aspect of the present invention provides an apparatus for reproducing encoded data that includes a data analyzer configured to analyze an encode method of the encoded data to reproduce, a controller configured to receive a seek command and a target time to seek, calculate a seek controlling bit rate according to a part of the encoded data, and compute, according to the calculated seek controlling bit rate, a data size corresponding to the target time to seek, and a decoder configured to skip the encoded data for the computed data size by the controller and decode, based on the analyzed encode method by the data analyzer, the encoded data after the end of the skipped part thereof.

Abstract: A computer system for sending out and reproducing at a fixed rate a moving picture file encoded by a moving picture compression scheme using interframe prediction is disclosed. In producing a file for rapid feed or reverse rapid feed from the moving picture file, I-pictures are extracted sequentially from the head of the moving picture file for rapid feed and from the trailing end of the moving picture file for reverse rapid feed thereby to reduce the information by the I-pictures. Digits 0s are padded in place of the I-pictures thus reduced and a designated bit rate for reproduction is stored in the header of the picture file, thereby producing a moving picture file for trick play.

Abstract: Unique data block identifiers are assigned to the entire data block group of plural external memory devices. The file management information stores, in a table format, the unique data block identifiers in connection with a file held in the data block group. When a file management process is executed in accordance with the operation type (access, addition, registration, deletion) of file management, the file management information is referred to. Furthermore, a data block group management process is called and the operation is performed. When a data block shift process is executed, the data block group management process is called and the contents of the data block are shifted between external memory device based on the file management information. When the file management process or the data block shift process is executed, data stored in the file management information is rewritten on an as-needed basis.
