Abstract: Different from conventional uricase products, the uricase of the present invention has outstandingly high thermal stability and is active in a wide range of pH from 5 to 10 for the oxidative decomposition of uric acid undertaken in clinical analysis. The uricase of the invention is produced microbiologically by a thermophilic microorganism belonging to the genus of Bacillus and especially named as Bacillus sp. TB-90 which is a novel species distinguishable from any of the microorganisms belonging to the genus of Bacillus.

Abstract: A method of covering an abrasion of a glass container comprising coating said container with an aqueous dispersion of a coating material comprising the following components:(A) liquid paraffin;(B) at least one fatty acid ester selected from the group consisting of sorbitan fatty acid esters, polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters, sucrose fatty acid esters, propylene glycol fatty acid esters, glycerin fatty acid esters, and higher alcohol fatty acid esters; and(C) sodium polyacrylate,the amount of each of said components based on the amount by weight of said dispersion is as follows:(A) liquid paraffin: 1 to 25 percent;(B) fatty acid ester: in an amount up to 10 percent;(C) sodium polyacrylate: in an amount up to 5 percent.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of maltopentaose is disclosed, comprising cultivating a maltopentaose-producing microorganism belonging to a genus Bacillus in a medium and isolating the thus-accumulated maltopentaose from the culture broth. A typical example of the maltopentaose-producing microorganism is Bacillus cereus NY-14. This process permits the preparation of maltopentoase without the use of amylase as in conventional methods. Maltopentaose is useful, for example, as a substrate for the determination of serum amylase.
