  • Patent number: 5178586
Abstract: A canvas cover for placement over an exposed surface of a power transmission belt having a length and width, which canvas cover consists of a yarn defining a weft for extension in the longitudinal direction with respect to a belt on which the canvas cover is to be placed, and a twisted yarn defining a warp for extension in the widthwise direction with respect to a belt on which the canvas cover is to be placed. The warp yarn is preferably made up of from 3-15 twisted mono-filaments each of 10-50 denier with a total denier of 210d.

  • Patent number: 5120280
Abstract: A transmission belt having a base section with a plurality of teeth spaced lengthwise of the belt and a canvas layer covering the teeth. The canvas layer has weft yarns extending in a lengthwise direction defined by aromatic polyamide fiber spun yarn twisted with a urethane elastic yarn. The canvas layer further includes warp yarns made by twisting a plurality of filaments, at least one of which is aliphatic mono-filament of 10 to 50 denier, or a plurality of aromatic polyamide multi-filament of 1 to 6 denier.

  • Patent number: 4993998
Abstract: A toothed belt power transmission system having a belt tooth configuration and pulley groove configuration providing for clearances between the belt tooth root and pulley groove outer surface, and between the belt tooth tip surface and pulley groove inner surface. A power transmitting surface on a midportion of the tooth has facial engagement with a confronting sidewall surface at the midportion of the pulley groove side surface. Locations of the centers of the different arcuate surfaces of the pulley tooth and belt groove for providing the extended life, low noise operation of the drive are disclosed. A number of different constructions embodying the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4891040
Abstract: Woven fabric for use in a power transmission belt. The fabric has a warp of shrinkable yarns obtained by aligning and twisting individual shrinkable mixed twisted yarns. Alternatively, the warp may be formed of more than two mixed twisted yarns mixed in a ratio of greater than 1:15 of elastic yarns formed of polyurethane fibrous yarns oriented at more than 10%, or rubber yarns and other fibrous yarns. The weft is made alternatively of twisted yarns or monofilament yarns. The fabric has excellent shrinkability, wear resistance, and crack resistance.

  • Patent number: 4627828
Abstract: A toothed drive belt having inner and outer reinforcing fabric layers. The inner layer has a large mesh size, is highly stretchable, has a fine warp of 30 to 210 d, has a normal weft, and the sum of the cover factors of the warp and weft are no more than 20. The inner layer may have either a flat or a wavy shape within the teeth. The outer layer has a low stretchability and a normal warp and weft. The inner layer, which is bonded strongly to the rubber substrate of the belt due to its large mesh size, easily follows the deformations of the teeth. Due to a small thread size, the amount of PLD is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4604080
Abstract: A toothed belt drive system wherein either or both of the belt teeth and pulley grooves include, in cross section, elliptical arcuate portions coordinated with circularly arcuate portions in providing resistance to cracking, minimizing of tapping noise by engagement of the belt groove roots with the pulley teeth, smooth withdrawal of the belt from the pulley, and abrasion of the belt groove root portions. The tooth and pulley groove configurations may include rectilinear portions. Preferred angular relationship between the elliptical arc axes and dimensions of the different portions of the belt teeth and pulley groove configurations embodying the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4510113
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming belt sleeves having grooves provided in either or both of the inner and outer surfaces thereof. The manufacture includes the provision of a preform laminate on an inner mold and the forcible urging of a constrictable outer mold radially against the laminate at elevated temperatures so as to effect curing of the rubber of the laminate in accurate conformity to the grooved configuration of the inner and outer molds. The entire assembly is carried on a central support post. Pressure plates are provided for urging the constrictable outer mold radially inwardly as the result of threaded advance of nuts on the central post. The grooves in the mold surfaces may selectively be arranged to extend parallel or circumferentially of the central axis of the post as desired to form either longitudinally or transversely extending ribs, grooves, etc., in the formed sleeve belt.
