Patent number: 7603519Abstract: A storage system which manages a plurality of storage control apparatus in an integrated manner is provided. An I/O request issued by a host apparatus to a second storage control apparatus is forwarded to the second storage control apparatus through a first storage control apparatus. The first storage control apparatus has management information for the second storage control apparatus, allowing a pair comprising a logical device controlled by the first storage control apparatus and a logical device controlled by the second storage control apparatus to be created. In addition, the first storage control apparatus is capable of controlling the second storage control apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2005Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takahiko Takeda, Ryusuki Ito, Keiichi Kaiya

Publication number: 20090240902Abstract: A computer system of the present invention can adjust the execution frequencies of a command issued from a host and a command issued from a storage. An external manager disposed in the host configures a priority for a host command issued from a command issuing module inside the host. An internal manager disposed in the storage configures a priority for an internal command issued from a command issuing module inside the storage. The internal manager adjusts the execution frequency of the host command and the execution frequency of the internal command based on the host command priority and the internal command priority.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2008Publication date: September 24, 2009Inventors: Ken Tokoro, Takahiko Takeda

Publication number: 20090234986Abstract: This storage controller includes a port unit and multiple processing units for inputting and outputting data to and from a storage apparatus. The port unit sorts the data I/O requests given from a host system to the corresponding processing units according to a table pre-defining the storage apparatus or a storage area in the storage apparatus to perform data I/O processing allocated to each of the processing units. The processing unit inputs data in the corresponding storage apparatus or the corresponding storage area according to the data I/O request sorted to itself from the port unit and, upon detecting a blockage of the other processing unit due to a failure, updates the table retained in each of the port units so as to sort the storage apparatuses or the storage areas allocated to the other processing unit to the remaining unblocked processing units.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2008Publication date: September 17, 2009Inventors: Atsushi Yuhara, Masao Nakano, Takao Sato, Kazunobu Ohashi, Takahiko Takeda

Patent number: 7418565Abstract: A data processing system includes a first storage system including a first host and a first storage subsystem. The first host has access to a first copy manager that is operable to manage a data replication operation. A second storage system includes a second host and a second storage subsystem. The second host has access to a second copy manager that is operable to manage a data replication operation. A first communication link is coupled to the first storage system and the second storage system to exchange management information between the first and second storage systems in order to manage the data replication operation. A data transfer path is configured to transfer data stored in the first storage subsystem to the second storage subsystem and replicate the data of the first storage subsystem in the second storage subsystem. The data transfer path is different from the first communication link.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2006Date of Patent: August 26, 2008Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takahiko Takeda, Yoshihiro Asaka, Kenji Yamagami, Katsuyoshi Suzuki, Tetsuya Shirogane

Publication number: 20070168362Abstract: A first storage system stores information relating to the updating of data stored in that system as a journal. More specifically, the journal is composed of a copy of data that was used for updating and update information such as a write command used during updating. Furthermore, the second storage system acquires the journal via a communication line between the first storage system and the second storage system. The second storage system holds a duplicate of the data held by the first storage system and updates the data corresponding to the data of the first storage system in the data update order of the first storage system by using the journal.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2007Publication date: July 19, 2007Inventors: Yusuke Hirakawa, Hiroshi Arakawa, Takahiko Takeda, Takao Sato

Patent number: 7069400Abstract: In the data processing system which maintains data duplication between sites having a host computer and a storage apparatus, transfer-data volume and cost in communication line between the sites are controlled and the load of both primary and secondary hosts is controlled, and a data update management function at the secondary site side is realized. In the primary site, a primary DKC of primary storage apparatus stores an update data in a primary side file when a primary user data is updated from a primary host. Being asynchronous with this update, a secondary remote copy program of a primary remote copy program and an intermediate processing section remote-copies and accumulates the update data in a secondary side file. A data reflection program of a secondary host reads the accumulated data and commands a secondary DKC of a secondary storage apparatus to reflect it on a secondary user data and stores the update information in a secondary log data.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2004Date of Patent: June 27, 2006Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takahiko Takeda, Toru Suzuki, Hidenori Suzuki

Patent number: 6892203Abstract: A technique is described to enable exclusive control on a file basis in a storage system while remote double recording is performed between storage controllers. A first shared-file controller has a table that stores control information used for excluding read and write to that file on a file basis. When the shared-file controller receives a data write request, it sets access to the file as exclusive, and then issues a command to a second shared file controller to set control information for that file. After data is written into a storage medium and mirrored to a second storage medium, a copy of the file management information is stored in memories of the shared-file controllers. The consistency of the file management information is maintained between the two file controllers by copying the file management information over the network.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2002Date of Patent: May 10, 2005Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Naohisa Kasako, Shigeru Kishiro, Takahiko Takeda

Patent number: 6810469Abstract: There is realized a storage system which can reduce the limitation of a device number used by a host CPU at the time of duplexing data. A micro processor of a source external storage controller unit unifies a plurality of write data received from the host CPU to the same data bus to provide one unit of data transmitting to a target storage system. A number not dependent on the device number used when the host CPU specifies a device is allocated to this. Then, the source external storage controller unit sends the write data to the target external storage controller unit. This can receive/send the data without depending on the target specifying device number.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2001Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Masanao Tsuboki, Masamitsu Takahashi, Katsunori Nakamura, Takahiko Takeda
