Patent number: 11952001Abstract: Driving simulations may be generated based on driving log data and used to validate autonomous vehicle safety systems. A driving simulation system may receive driving log data from autonomous vehicles and determine events which caused a vehicle to diverge from a planned trajectory. Driving simulations may be generated based on the driving log data, and executed using a simulated vehicle that follows the initial planned trajectory of the autonomous vehicle. The driving simulations may be analyzed to detect potential collisions and near misses, and to determine success conditions for the behaviors of vehicle safety systems. Driving simulations and associated success conditions may be aggregated and used in validation suites for vehicle controllers and/or vehicle safety systems, thereby providing more comprehensive and robust autonomous vehicle validation based on real-world driving scenarios.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2021Date of Patent: April 9, 2024Assignee: ZOOX, INC.Inventors: Chuang Wang, Leonardo Poubel Orenstein, Tod Cameron Semple, James Graham Dolan, Takahiro Baba, Matthew Lotocki

Patent number: 11724694Abstract: A traveling assistance apparatus controls a safety apparatus for avoiding collision between an own vehicle and an object, based on detection information from an object detection apparatus. The assistance apparatus calculates a predicted time to collision of a target object and the own vehicle, and operates the safety apparatus in response to the predicted time to collision being equal to or less than a predetermined operation timing. In response to a steering operation by a driver for collision avoidance of the own vehicle being performed, the assistance apparatus performs operation-stop in which operation of the safety apparatus is stopped or operation-delay in which the operation timing is delayed. The assistance apparatus suppresses the operation-stop or the operation-delay in response to a target object serving as a collision avoidance target being recognized in a path of the own vehicle after the steering operation by the driver, based on the detection information.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2020Date of Patent: August 15, 2023Assignee: DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Toru Takahashi, Yosuke Ito, Kei Kamiya, Ryo Takaki, Shogo Matsunaga, Takaharu Oguri, Takahiro Baba

Patent number: 11407390Abstract: Control determines whether or not two objects represent the same object, in which one object is detected at a first position in front of a vehicle by an electromagnetic wave sensor and the other object is detected at a second position in front of the vehicle by image sensor. The control further determines whether or not the other object is partially excluded from an image acquired by the image sensor, in which a part of the object may have been outside the imaging region of the image sensor. The control changes a determination condition used for determining whether or not the objects represent the same object, such that the object whose part is excluded from the acquired image is more easily determined as the same object, compared with an object determined that such a part is not excluded from the acquired image.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2017Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: DENSO CORPORATIONInventor: Takahiro Baba
