  • Publication number: 20080298471
Abstract: An inverse wavelet transformer causes a level-graded buffer to store one of two lines of coefficient data generated through a synthesis filtering operation. In order to adjust an output timing of image data, the inverse wavelet transformer causes an output buffer to store temporarily the other line of the two lines of coefficient data in a period throughout which the output buffer stores no baseband image data and then causes the level-graded buffer to store the other line of the two lines of coefficient data. In this way, the level-graded buffer stores coefficients generated through the synthesis filtering operation on a line-by-line basis.

  • Publication number: 20080285873
Abstract: A wavelet transformer performs an analysis filtering operation on image data while storing coefficient data generated in the middle of the analysis filtering operation onto an intermediate calculation buffer. The wavelet transform segments the generated coefficient data into subbands using write buffers and writes the coefficient data on a per subband by subband basis onto a ring buffer of a coefficient rearranging buffer in a main memory. An entropy encoder reads the coefficient data stored on the ring buffer of the coefficient rearranging buffer via read buffers in an order of a synthesis process, entropy encodes the read coefficient data, writes the encoded coefficient data onto the main memory via a write buffer and outputs the resulting coefficient data.

  • Patent number: 7454075
Abstract: In wavelet transform encoding, high-quality encoding is to be realized by enabling picture quality control from one fractional area to another. An input picture 100 is read out in an amount corresponding to a number of lines required for wavelet transform and buffered in a memory unit 6. The input picture then is wavelet transformed in a wavelet transform unit 2 and quantized in a coefficient quantizing unit 3. In quantizing wavelet transform coefficients, the wavelet transform coefficients are multiplied by weighting coefficients from one sub-band to another. The weighting coefficients are determined using the analysis information of a specified block area in a picture, such as motion information and texture fineness information. This enables fine quantization control in terms of a picture block as a unit.

  • Publication number: 20080266410
Abstract: The present invention is applied to imaging apparatuses including video cameras for recording moving pictures, electronic still cameras, monitoring devices and such. An image pickup means 3 and an image compressing means 5 are connected integrally by a wiring layer formed on a surface of the image pickup means 3 opposite a light-receiving surface of the image pickup means 3. The image pickup means 3 provides processing units of image data S1 relating to an image compressing process sequentially. Image data on a partial area in an effective image area is compressed to detect a code amount in advance. A data compressing ratio is determined on the basis of the code amount, and the image data is compressed at the image compressing ratio.

  • Patent number: 7433541
Abstract: In an image synthesizer (1), code stream analyzers (10, 11), code block extraction units (12, 13) and EBCOT decoders (14, 15) work together to decode encoded code streams (D10, D11) encoded according to the MPEG-2000 Standard and generate quantization coefficients (D16, D17) for each code block. In a cross-fading unit (16), multipliers (17, 18) multiply the quantization coefficients (D16, D17) by coefficients (?(t), (1??(t))) and an adder (19) adds together the results of multiplication to provide a cross-fading quantization coefficient (D20). An EBCOT encoder (20), rate controller (21) and code stream generator (22) work together to encode the cross-fading quantization coefficient (D20) to provide a final encoded code stream (D23). Therefore, the image synthesizer (1) can combine two encoded code streams easily and effectively with a reduced use of a memory capacity.

  • Patent number: 7385921
Abstract: A system allows data transfer in which the most appropriate packet processing is executed according to the performance of a terminal. A data transmission side stores scalable-encoded data in a packet as a payload, assigns priority-level information corresponding to a layer level of the encoded data stored in the packet to a packet header, and transmits the packet. A data receiving side performs processing by referring to the priority-level information. A level of priority dependent on an application is specified in an RTP payload header according to the degree of importance of scalable-encoded data, and a level of priority is further specified in an IP header. The most appropriate packet processing based on the performance of a terminal is allowed. Re-transmission control based on the layer level of encoded data is also allowed.

  • Patent number: 7362893
Abstract: In a color converter unit of an image encoding apparatus, a subtractor unit subtracts Y from Z and a divider unit divides the result of this subtraction (Z?Y) by 2 and supplies the result to a component signal Y1 to an image coding unit. Another subtractor unit subtracts Y from X and another divider unit divides the result of this subtraction (X?Y) by 2 and supplies the result as a component signal Y2 to the image coding unit. Y remains unprocessed and is supplied as a component signal Y0 to the image coding unit. The image coding unit compression-codes the converted three component signals Y0, Y1, Y2 according to the JPEG-2000 system to generate an encoded code stream. Thus, an image in the XYZ color space is compressed and expanded highly efficiently.

  • Patent number: 7356191
Abstract: In an image encoder is provided, including a to-be-encoded object prediction unit which counts quantization coefficients which are newly made significant, for example, when each bit plane is encoded, on the basis of quantization coefficient for each bit plane in all code blocks to provide a feature amount, estimates the number of generated codes on the basis of the feature amount, and adds the estimated number of codes in a predetermined order. When an initial target number of codes is reached, the to-be-encoded object prediction unit stops the addition, and supplies the entropy encoder with information on the bit planes having the quantization coefficients thereof been added as to-be-encoded object information. In this entropy encoder, only the quantization coefficient in the bit planes represented by the to-be-encoded object information, is processed by three types of encoding passes while truncating the quantization coefficients of the other bit planes.
