  • Publication number: 20120002526
Abstract: A highly efficient and reliable reproduced signal evaluation method and an optical disc drive using that method in which assuming that the number of 2T's appearing successively in a predetermined evaluation bitstream is i, the evaluation bitstream is divided into a main bitstream (5+2i) long and sub bitstreams at the ends of the main bitstream. The check process to determine whether a predetermined evaluation bitstream is included in the binarized bitstreams is replaced with a main bitstream agreement check. This can prevent an increase in the circuit size. At the same time, by separately summing up for each main bitstream the calculated results of Euclidean distance between the reproduced signal and the target signal corresponding to the evaluation bitstream, the size of an evaluation summing circuit can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8089841
Abstract: Regarding a signal recorded with a first frequency in a recording area on a specific first recording layer and a signal recorded with a second frequency different from the first frequency in a recording area on a second recording layer which might cause interlayer crosstalk in relation to the first recording layer, a reproducing signal measurement method for a multilayer optical recording medium having at least three recording layers includes reproducing the signal recorded in the recording area on the first recording layer, separating signals recorded respectively with the first and second frequencies, discriminating signal amplitude of the first frequency and a maximum value in signal amplitude of the second frequency, and calculating a signal amplitude ratio between them to measure interlayer crosstalk contained in the signal reproduced from the recording area on the first recording layer. Thus, the interlayer crosstalk quantity caused by unnecessary light can be measured quantitatively.

  • Patent number: 8085641
Abstract: The present invention aims to provide a reproduced signal evaluation method and a write adjustment method for offering a Blu-ray disc having a large storage capacity with excellent media compatibility. An evaluation index L-SEAT is calculated through signed addition using a Euclidean distance difference calculated from at least one of target signals in which a focused edge is shifted to the right and left, and the quality of the reproduced signal is evaluated based on the evaluation index. Write condition adjustment using the index enables write adjustment not depending on SNR and achieving high adjustment accuracy.

  • Patent number: 8085640
Abstract: A method for evaluating reproduced signal wherein when Euclidean distance is calculated by judging the coincidence between a binary bit array and a predetermined evaluation bit array in the evaluation of the quality of reproduced signal, the assumption is made that a continuous 2T count included in a predetermined evaluation bit array is denoted by i and that each evaluation bit array is composed of a main bit array having a bit length of (5+2i); and judgment on whether binary bit arrays include the predetermined evaluation bit array, is concentrated on the coincidence judgment of the main bit arrays.

  • Patent number: 8072850
Abstract: A rewritable optical disk apparatus, optical information recording and reproducing apparatus or the like is allowed to automatically and properly adjust the optical system to the optimum focal condition regardless of the readout signal detector's positional error and the residual aberration in the optical system. The spherical aberration and defocus are coarsely adjusted using the amplitude (PP amplitude) of the tracking error signal and then finely adjusted using the amplitude (RF amplitude) of the readout signal. Since the spherical aberration can properly be adjusted, it is possible to raise the reliability of the readout signal.

  • Publication number: 20110156319
Abstract: A container having a plurality of orifices in an outer peripheral wall and having a space communicating with the orifices is rotated to extrude an electrically charged raw material liquid containing a polymer material from the space through the orifices by centrifugal force. This allows the electrically charged raw material liquid to form a fibrous material. At this time, the raw material liquid is supplied to the space in which the raw material liquid is filled by a raw material liquid pump so that the raw material liquid is extruded from the orifices at a predetermined pressure. That is, the raw material liquid in the space is pressurized. Also, the shape of the space in the container is set so that the centrifugal force exerted on the raw material liquid is constant.

  • Publication number: 20100329097
Abstract: Information about a variation ratio of the recording power sensitivity, which varies depending on whether another recording layer is recorded or unrecorded, is recorded onto a disc control information area (DI) in advance. Moreover, based on this recording-power-sensitivity variation information, recording-power compensation is performed. The corresponding recording-power compensation method is classified into three types: (1) type in which the recording is performed by judging the recorded/unrecorded states of another layer, (2) type in which, instead of judging the recorded/unrecorded states of another layer, the recording is performed using an intermediate power of the optimum powers for both of the recorded/unrecorded states, and (3) combination of (1) and (2).

  • Patent number: RE43105
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to improve a conventional DPD method having a problem that a tracking servo becomes unstable due to a reduction in the accuracy of detecting a phase difference between short mark signals at an edge, in a case where the amplitudes of the short mark signals are very small, or where a readout signal contains large noise. To this end, the present invention provides a method for increasing the contribution ratio of long mark signals to generate a tracking error signal by causing a phase difference pulse to include information on a phase difference, and by causing the area of the pulse to be weighted according to the length of a mark/space adjacent to a concerned edge.
