  • Patent number: 6215819
Abstract: An apparatus and method for receiving an OFDM signal arranged to accurately reproduce a clock signal. I channel data and Q channel data are differential-demodulated by a differential demodulation circuit and are supplied to a ROM. The ROM reads out an intersymbol phase change amount corresponding to the differential-demodulated data and supplies it to a gate circuit. The gate circuit extracts only a component corresponding to each of pilot signals in the input data, and supplies the extracted component to a sign inversion circuit and to a selector. The selector selects the output from the gate circuit if the pilot signal is a positive frequency value or the output from the sign inversion circuit if the pilot signal is a negative frequency value, and supplies the obtained value to a cumulative addition circuit. The cumulative addition circuit performs cumulative addition of values output from the selector over a symbol period, and outputs the addition result to an average circuit.

  • Patent number: 6169768
Abstract: A multiplication circuit is removed from a receiving apparatus which receives an orthogonally modulated information sequence. The real-number part and the imaginary-number part of a transmission parameter converted into a frequency range are input to hard determination circuits, respectively. The hard determination circuits convert the respective components into 1-bit data in accordance with a predetermined threshold value. Differential decoding circuits differentially decode the real-number part and the imaginary-number part which are converted into 1-bit data, respectively, and output the obtained data to cumulative addition circuits. The cumulative addition circuits cumulatively add the differentially demodulated data and supply it to identification-distance measurement circuits, respectively, and also to a selector.

  • Patent number: 5903546
Abstract: The present invention is used for example digital television broadcasting and provides a good television picture and sound where the signal level is large on the reception side and provides a television picture and sound of a certain degree of quality even in a case where the signal level is small. The signal transmitting apparatus (10) divides the series of input information in accordance with the significance of the content of the data to obtain a plurality of input signals, encodes the input signals with respectively different encoding rates, multiplexes the same at the time slots for transmission, modulates the same by multi-value modulation methods different for every time slot corresponding to the coded signals, and transmits the resultant data via the communication transmission line (20) such as a satellite communication channel to the signal receiving apparatus (30).

  • Patent number: 5805484
Abstract: In an orthogonal function generating circuit, orthogonal functions are generated with high precision by a small-scale circuit. The circuit uses an orthogonal transformation between time domain digital data and frequency domain digital data to obtain one of the time domain digital data and the frequency domain digital data from the other digital data. The circuit has a first data holder for holding first data and a second data holder for holding second data. A first multiplier multiplies the first data, and a second multiplier multiplies the first data by a second coefficient. A third multiplier multiplies the second data by a third coefficient, and afourth multiplier multiplies the second data by a fourth coefficient.

  • Patent number: 5787123
Abstract: In view of regenerating clock with higher accuracy even under the condition that frequency distortion is generated due to the frequency selective Rayleigh fading, the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulated signal is converted to the baseband OFDM signal in the multipliers and a phase difference between the phase of the carrier forming the OFDM signal and the phase of the carrier before one OFDM symbol is calculated in the differential decoding circuit. A phase error of the carrier is calculated on the basis of the phase difference of the carrier in the carrier regenerating circuit or clock regenerating circuit and the local oscillator to generate the carrier and the local oscillator to generate clock are respectively controlled on the basis of the phase error of a plurality of carriers among those forming the OFDM signal.

  • Patent number: 5691995
Abstract: A transmission system for transmitting information series such as hierarchically coded image data etc. includes at least one transmission apparatus and receiving apparatus. The transmission apparatus has an encoder and a multiplexor. The encoder takes a plurality of information series from a single information source as input, utilizes convolutional coding to code the plurality of inputted information series, and carries out code processing in such a manner that at least one of the plurality of inputted information series is coded with a code rate differing from that of the remaining information series. The higher the priority of the information series, the lower the code rate of the encoding. The multiplexor multiplexes a plurality of convolutional code series outputted from the encoder. The transmission apparatus modulates and transmits an output from the multiplexor. The receiving apparatus has a demultiplexor and a decoder.
