  • Patent number: 6893329
Abstract: An abrasive tape is supplied to a tape head by a tape supply unit and taken up from the tape head by a tape take-up unit. The tape head presses the abrasive tape against a surface of an object under polish, which is rotated by a rotating unit. A tape head pressuring unit utilizes a voice coil motor, for example. Since the tape head pressuring unit generates a pressuring force for pressuring the tape head using the electromagnetic force, it is able to set a minute pressuring force by controlling a drive signal, and to obtain the fine adjustment of the pressuring force easily by controlling the electric signal. Therefore, it becomes possible to press the abrasive tape against the surface of the object under polish with a desired low pressure.

  • Publication number: 20050022930
Abstract: Above a substrate mounted on rollers, an upper board is prepared a predetermined distance apart from the substrate. A pipe fills a space between the upper board and the substrate with washing water by supplying the washing water at a predetermined flow rate. A washing water layer is formed evenly on an upper surface of the substrate when the substrate passes below the upper board. Below the substrate, a lower board is prepared a predetermined distance apart from the substrate. A pipe fills a space between the lower board and the substrate with the washing water by supplying the washing water at a predetermined flow rate. A washing water layer is formed evenly on a lower surface of the substrate when the substrate passes above the lower board. The air emitted from an air knife is sprayed to the upper/lower surface of the substrate slantingly at a predetermined incident angle in an opposite direction of a substrate moving direction.

  • Patent number: 5952014
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a textured zone in a predetermined surface area on a magnetic data recording disc, which is capable of precisely controlling the position and range of the texturing zone. Bumps 4 are formed on a CSS zone on the inner peripheral side of a magnetic recording disc 1 by the use of a spindle means 6 and a laser beam bombarding means 7. The spindle means 6 is provided with a chuck mechanism 13 with opposingly confronting tapered surfaces 18a and 21a to hold a disc 1 in a centered position in alignment with the rotational axis of a spindle shaft 10. On the other hand, the laser beam bombarding means 7 has part of component parts of its optical system, from a laser energy source 34 up to an electromagnetic shutter 39, mounted on its main casing 7a, and has a reflector mirror 40 and an objective lens 41 accommodated in a movable housing 31 which is movable in the direction of its optical axis to displace a laser spot position on the surface of the disc 1 in a radial direction thereof.

  • Patent number: 5885143
Abstract: A disk texturing apparatus for texturing surfaces of a magnetic disk or the like with cross-pattern grooves. The texturing apparatus is basically constituted by a rotational drive having a spindle for supporting and rotating a disk, and a tape transport mechanism for moving a texturing tape across and in pressed with a texturing surface of said disk. The spindle of the rotational drive mechanism is arranged to hold a disk in an eccentrically deviated position off the rotational axis of the rotational drive. As a result, the disk is revolved along an eccentrically deflecting orbit around the rotational axis of said rotational drive while being rotated with the spindle, moving in and out in radial directions in a degree commensurate with the amount of deviation from said rotational axis to form cross-pattern grooves on the disk surface.
