    Abstract: An electronic apparatus is provided with a base unit and a display unit. The base unit has an opening formed on the upper surface. The display unit incorporates a display device and supported by the base unit. The display unit is rotatable between a first position where it is tilted down in such a manner as to cover the upper surface of the base unit and a second position where it is raised in such a manner as to expose the upper surface. The display unit includes a projection portion which is inserted into the opening when the display unit is rotated to the first position. A switch for turning the display device on or off is arranged inside the base unit. The switch includes an operation element opposed to the opening of the base unit. When the display unit is rotated to the first position, the operation element is pushed by the projection portion, thereby turning off the display device.

The external expansion unit has a second connector which is detachably connected to the first connector. The external expansion unit has an engaging device. The engaging device is movable between the first position where the engaging device is separated from the bottom surface and the second position where the engaging device is engaged with the bottom surface to pull the electronic apparatus body toward the second surface. The external expansion unit has an operation mechanism for selectively moving the engaging device to the first and second positions.

An ejector is arranged within the housing, and intended to eject the card-like electronic part to the outside of the housing through the inlet. Further, the ejector has a slider for pushing the card-like electronic part in a direction where the card-like electronic part is separated from the card connector. The slider is supported by the housing such that it can be slid between a first position where the card-like electronic part has been pushed out though the inlet and a second position where the slider is separate from the card-like electronic part.

The expansion unit attaches underneath the computer and has a second connector connected to the FDD.     Abstract: A function expanding apparatus for a compact electronic device includes a casing having a supporting portion and a supporting plate attached to the casing to be movable in a predetermined direction. A pair of retaining portions are formed on the supporting plate. The rear portion of the electronic device is mounted on the supporting portion and is positioned in its width direction by a pair of positioning members provided at the supporting portion. The front end portion of the electronic device is mounted on the supporting plate and the retaining portions engage the front edge of the electronic device so as to restrain the movement of the electronic device in the depth direction thereof. The position of the retaining portion is adjusted by moving the supporting plate, in accordance with the depth of the mounted electronic device.

In the base unit, there is formed a first mounting recess to which the first battery is detachably attached, and a second mounting recess to which the second battery or the optional component is selectively detachably attached. A connector as provided entirely within the base unit to permit connection to the component mounted in the second mounting recess. When the optional component is mounted in the second mounting recess, an adaptor interconnects the connector and the optional component.

A projection and holding member are provided on the battery pack storage area and battery pack, respectively, to hold the battery pack in the battery pack storage area and release the holding of the battery pack in the battery pack storage area.

When the second battery pack is mounted in the mount portion while the coupling portion is fitted in the fitting recess, the device body is coupled to the computer in a state where the second connector is connected to the first connector and the first and second power-supply terminals contact power-receiving terminals of the computer and the power-receiving terminals of the device body.

A battery pack and an optional component each having substantially the same shape as their respective recess, are each removably fitted in their receiving recess. The battery pack and optional component each have an outer surface which is exposed to the outside and constitutes part of the rear face of the housing and part of the rear half portion of the top face when the battery pack optional component are fitted in their respective receiving recess.
