  • Patent number: 5484322
Abstract: A method of removing a portion of a cord that is exposed on the side surface of a power transmission belt. The method consists of the steps of providing an endless power transmission belt having inside and outside surfaces, laterally oppositely facing side surfaces, and a cord exposed on at least a part of one of the side surfaces. The belt is run in an endless path. The cord that is exposed on the part of the one side surface is ground as the belt is run without grinding the entirety of the one side surface of the belt. The invention is also directed to an apparatus for carrying out the above method and a power transmission belt having a portion of at least one of its side surfaces cut out/ground where a cord was exposed.

  • Patent number: 4993998
Abstract: A toothed belt power transmission system having a belt tooth configuration and pulley groove configuration providing for clearances between the belt tooth root and pulley groove outer surface, and between the belt tooth tip surface and pulley groove inner surface. A power transmitting surface on a midportion of the tooth has facial engagement with a confronting sidewall surface at the midportion of the pulley groove side surface. Locations of the centers of the different arcuate surfaces of the pulley tooth and belt groove for providing the extended life, low noise operation of the drive are disclosed. A number of different constructions embodying the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4952261
Abstract: A toothed belt and method of manufacturing the same wherein the opposed ends of a tooth covering fabric are stitched with an interposed rigid element disposed within the stitching. The rigid element is used to accurately locate the joint of the fabric with respect to the tooth molding groove, at least during a subsequent tensile cord winding step which normally tends to displace the fabric joint. The joint may be accurately located as desired with respect to the mandrel or mold. Different structure for holding the ends of the rigid element are disclosed. The rigid element may be removed prior to the rubber vulcanization step during which step the wrapped tensile cord effectively maintains the fabric joint at the desired location.

  • Patent number: 4891040
Abstract: Woven fabric for use in a power transmission belt. The fabric has a warp of shrinkable yarns obtained by aligning and twisting individual shrinkable mixed twisted yarns. Alternatively, the warp may be formed of more than two mixed twisted yarns mixed in a ratio of greater than 1:15 of elastic yarns formed of polyurethane fibrous yarns oriented at more than 10%, or rubber yarns and other fibrous yarns. The weft is made alternatively of twisted yarns or monofilament yarns. The fabric has excellent shrinkability, wear resistance, and crack resistance.

  • Patent number: 4832673
Abstract: A toothed belt construction having a tooth cover fabric providing extended useful life of the belt. The cover fabric includes waft fibers extending longitudinally of the belt, having a toughness of at least approximately 30 where the toughness is a function of the square root of the elongation of the weft yarns at break and the strength of the west yarns at break in units of grams per denier. The elongation at break is preferably in the range of approximately 20 to 45%. The strength of the weft yarns at break is preferably at least approximately 6.0 grams per densier. Woolly processed yarns of polyamide fibers have been found to be particularly advantageous in the disclosed construction.

  • Patent number: 4627828
Abstract: A toothed drive belt having inner and outer reinforcing fabric layers. The inner layer has a large mesh size, is highly stretchable, has a fine warp of 30 to 210 d, has a normal weft, and the sum of the cover factors of the warp and weft are no more than 20. The inner layer may have either a flat or a wavy shape within the teeth. The outer layer has a low stretchability and a normal warp and weft. The inner layer, which is bonded strongly to the rubber substrate of the belt due to its large mesh size, easily follows the deformations of the teeth. Due to a small thread size, the amount of PLD is reduced.
