    Abstract: A lightweight high-performance internal combustion engine embodying screwed-in cylinder liners that are screwed into the cylinder head for forming the combustion chambers. The cylinder liners are formed from a lightweight alloy having a hardened cylinder bore surface. A sealing arrangement is provided between the cylinder block and the cylinder liners for confining the cooling jacket relative to the threaded connection between the cylinder head and the cylinder liner for precluding liquid coolant from reaching the threaded connection.
