  • Patent number: 5574546
Abstract: A developing apparatus in which a stationary multipole permanent magnet is placed in a sleeve and in which development is performed by bringing a developer, which contains at least carrier and toner particles and is held on the periphery of a sleeve by use of the magnetic force of the multipole permanent magnet, into contact with a photo-conductive body owing to the rotation of the sleeve. For securing image density and for preventing the deposition of carrier onto the photo-conductive body, two magnetic pieces, each of which is arranged lengthwise in the direction of the axis thereof and which have the same polarity, are placed in a region in the multipole permanent magnet which faces the photo-conductive body in such a manner as to adjoin in the circumferential direction of said permanent magnet. This results in generation of the distribution of a magnetic field which has two peaks of magnetic force.

  • Patent number: 5315353
Abstract: An image recording apparatus including a photosensitive medium. A voltage is applied between the photosensitive medium and a developing sleeve of a developing unit, and a current flowing between the photosensitive medium and the developing sleeve is measured to be converted into a pulse waveform which is then compared by a predetermined reference value. On the basis of the result of the comparison, a gap is determined between the photosensitive medium and the developing unit, which is then advanced or retracted toward or from the photosensitive medium in accordance with the determined gap. Owing to the recording method carried out by the image recording apparatus, the gap can be selectively determined by observing the current waveform pattern of the current flowing between the photosensitive medium and the developing sleeve while decreasing gradually the gap therebetween, whereby a relation between the gap and height of a magnetic brush can definitely be established.

  • Patent number: 4992923
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical power supply for use, for example, for a flash fusing device in an electrophotographic recording apparatus, in which a DC high voltage is generated from a low voltage of an AC power supply so that the high voltage DC energy is momentarily consumed or discharged. The electrical power supply is configured in a manner so that, in order to make unnecessary a charging capacitor and a current limiting resistor for preventing rectifier elements from being damaged, at least some of the rectifier elements are constituted by rectifying control elements such as thyristors or transistors and a control signal is given to those rectifying control elements so as to make the rectifying control elements be in an isolated state. By use of such a configuration, the electrical power supply can be reduced in size as well as in power loss. The effect can be fully exhibited not only in a fusing apparatus employing the electrical power supply but in a recording apparatus employing such a fusing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4959693
Abstract: An aerial recording sheet carrier is provided downstream of a fixing station. The aerial recording sheet carrier has one pair of pressure chambers with wall surfaces facing each other and in parallel. Air jets are arranged on opposite wall surfaces of the pressure chambers. A recording sheet and a toner image from the fixing station are carried by an air stream and cooled down. The toner image on the recording sheet, which is in fusion, is prevented from coming into contact with any parts, such as a recording sheet carrying passage. Thus a stain on parts due to contact with the toner image can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4947200
Abstract: A developing device is of non-contact development type in which a toner is jumped to a photoconductor to develop a latent image on the photoconductor. The developing device is controlled in height of a developer-agent layer on a developer roll, and sets a developing gap between the photoconductor and the developer roll in such a manner that a driving electric field required for jumping of the toner can be maintained at the air gap between the photoconductor and a developer-agent layer on the developer roll and developing bias voltage can be brought to a value lower than charged electric potential of the photo-conductor. By setting the developing bias voltage to the valve lower than the charged electric potential of the photoconductor, jumping of additional or unnecessary toner is restricted so that contamination of an image and a recording sheet can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4821052
Abstract: A flash lamp apparatus for reducing occurrence of spots on a recording paper wherein an overlapping portion formed between two adjacent fusing areas of the recording paper receives a first flash and a second flash from a flash lamp so as to heat and fuse a toner on the recording paper. The overlapping portion is controlled so as to reduce occurrence of spots on the recording paper by reducing an area of the overlapping portion on a recording paper. Such reduction in the overlapping portion may be obtained by controlling a frequency of the flash or controlling a feeding velocity of the recording paper. Alternatively, the fusing energy of the overlapping portion may be reduced by changing alternately the radiating energy.
