  • Patent number: 5010430
Abstract: A magnetic disk storage device has a magnetic disk with a storing/reproduction region formed thereon and a head slider facing the disk surface with a plurality of parallel projections to generate an air bearing. Magnetic heads each having a head gap are provided in the projections and have an interval between head gaps of at least 1/N of the width of the whole storing/reproduction region of the disk where N is the number of heads. The device makes it feasible to increase the number of heads per disk and to shorten the seek distance without increasing the weight of the head actuator.

  • Patent number: 4745503
Abstract: A linear actuator has a flat box-like carriage movable along an access direction of a disk as a recording medium, a motor coil housed and fixed in the carriage, and a permanent magnet arrangement housed and fixed in the carriage to apply a magnetic field to the motor coil. The permanent magnet arrangement includes an E-shaped yoke member with a central portion extending along the access direction and inserted in the motor coil, a pair of outer portions arranged along two sides of the central portion, and permanent magnets arranged on opposite surfaces of the outer and central portions. The yoke member is arranged in the carriage to be parallel to the disk.

  • Patent number: 4739426
Abstract: A disk drive system according to the present invention comprises a spindle in a drive unit. The spindle is formed, at its free end, so that it has a flat portion. A magnetic disk which is adapted to be rotated by the spindle is provided having a center hub in its central portion. An opening in the shape of a right-angled isosceles triangle is formed in the center of the center hub. The free end of the spindle can be inserted into the opening, with some play therebetween, only when it is located within a predetermined range of the phase angle of rotation relative to the magnetic disk. The opening has, on its base, a first contact point adapted to abut against one side edge of the flat portion, located on the front side, when the free end of the spindle is inserted into the opening. The opening also has, on the two remaining sides thereof, second and third contact points adapted to engage some other portions of the outer peripheral surface of the free end of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4652949
Abstract: A bucket is so supported by a pair of supporters that it can move up and down, through vertical slits formed in the supporters and pins formed on the bucket and entering the vertical slits. A guide member can reciprocate horizontally, along one of the supporters. The guide member has slanted slits into which the pins on the bucket are individually fitted. When a cartridge is horziontally inserted into the bucket, a slider moves forward in conjunction with the cartridge, thereby rocking the interlocking body retaining the guide member, to disengage the guide member from the interlocking body. The guide member is moved in the cartridge retreating direction by a tension spring, and the bucket is lowered by the joint action of the slanted slits, the vertical slits and the pins. Thus, a magnetic disk engages with the shaft of a motor. If an ejecting lever is pushed in, the guide member moves in the cartridge insertion direction and the bucket is raised by the action of the slanted slits, etc.

  • Patent number: 4466031
Abstract: A floppy disc has a disc holder provided at the center of a disc-shaped recording medium. The disc holder is formed of a magnetic material and has a central bore at its center. A rotating member has a cylindrical rotating shaft portion and a flanged portion and has a cylindrical bore at its center. A center spindle has a base portion slidable within this cylindrical bore and an engaging portion engageable with the central bore. A rotating shaft of a motor is fitted into the cylindrical bore, whereby the rotating member is driven to rotate by the driving operation of the motor. A compression spring is mounted between the center spindle and the rotating shaft, whereby the center spindle is urged by this compression spring in a direction permitting the engaging portion to protrude from the rotating member. The disc holder and the rotating member are fixed to each other by the magnetic force.
