  • Patent number: 4735112
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (CVT) used in a vehicle is controlled such that an actual engine speed Ne is equalized to a desired engine speed Ne'. A reference engine speed Ner is defined to be nearly equal to and less than Ne'. When Ne<Ner, or Ne>Ne', the speed ratio e of the CVT is allowed to be changed, while the change is inhibited when Ner.ltoreq.Ne<Ne'.

  • Patent number: 4653007
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is controlled such that an actual engine speed becomes equal to a desired engine speed. The desired engine speed is set to a value not less than a minimum engine speed for fuel cut so that fuel is to be cut when an intake throttle valve is at a position below a predetermined position during the deceleration of a vehicle. When the position of the throttle valve exceeds the predetermined one, the desired engine speed is set during a predetermined period to a value different from a usual value which is defined as a function of parameters of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4653005
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling a continuously variable transmission operatively connecting an engine and drive wheels of a vehicle, wherein a speed ratio of the transmission is controlled such that an actual engine speed coincides with a target engine speed. The method and apparatus comprise steps or devices for: determining a normal target speed and a variation-restraint trigger speed based at least on a currently required output of the engine, the normal target speed being higher than the trigger speed and normally used as the target engine speed; restraining a rate of variation in the speed ratio while the actual engine speed is raised from the trigger speed to the normal target speed during acceleration of the vehicle; and selecting the trigger speed as a special target speed when the actual engine speed has been raised to the normal target speed. After the special target speed has been selected, the transmission is controlled such that the engine speed is lowered to the special target speed, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4653004
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling a continuously variable transmission operatively connecting an engine and drive wheels of a vehicle, wherein a speed ratio of the transmission is controlled such that an actual engine speed coincides with a target engine speed determined based on a currently required engine output and according to a predetermined relation between the target engine speed and the required engine output. The method and apparatus comprise a step or device for restraining a rate of variation in the speed ratio during a time span between the moment when the actual engine speed or output has exceeded a variation-restraint trigger speed or output of the engine, and the moment when the actual engine speed or output has reached the target speed or output. The trigger engine speed or output is determined based on a predetermined transmission efficiency of the transmission, and on the target engine speed or output, and is lower or smaller than the target engine speed or output.

  • Patent number: 4649485
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is controlled such that an actual engine speed Ne is equalized to a desired engine speed Ne'. Defining Nc as a positive constant, the speed ratio e of the CVT is substantially fixed during a period of time when the Ne changes from Ne<Ne'-Nc to Ne'-Nc.ltoreq.Ne<Ne' and then changes to Ne.gtoreq.Ne'. Ne'-Nc is defined as a temporarily desired engine speed during a period of time when the Ne changes from Ne.gtoreq.Ne' to Ne'-Nc.ltoreq.Ne<Ne' and then changes to Ne<Ne'-Nc. During the period of time the speed ratio of the CVT is changed such that the actual engine speed Ne is equalized to the temporarily desired engine speed Ne'-Nc.

  • Patent number: 4642068
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (hereinafter called CVT) comprises input pulleys, output pulleys and a belt which is trained over the input and output pulleys to transmit a driving torque. Line pressure is used for a force of the pulleys pressed against the belt on the input or output pulleys. The line pressure is adjusted in relation to engine torque which is calculated on the basis of engine speed, an intake throttle position and atmospheric pressure. The line pressure is alternatively adjusted in relation to the atmospheric pressure which is detected from the feedback correction of fuel injection.

  • Patent number: 4584907
Abstract: A method for controlling a continuously variable transmission installed in a vehicle. The method utilizes a changing rate for varying an RPM ratio between an output shaft and an input shaft to permit rapid acceleration of a vehicle when needed as well as fuel consumption efficiency. • Patent number: 4134380
Abstract: An oil pan assembly for an automotive vehicle is formed with an oil pan which is divided by a partition wall into a first and a second chamber. Oil is pumped by an oil pump from the first chamber into the engine of the vehicle through a pipe including an oil strainer. The partition wall is provided with a temperature responsive valve which closes when temperature of the oil is below a predetermined level to cut off flow communication between the second chamber and the first chamber. Thus, with the valve closed, all the oil going to the vehicle engine is drawn from the first chamber. When the temperature of the oil rises above a predetermined level, the temperature responsive valve opens thereby permitting oil circulation from the second chamber into the first chamber.

  • Patent number: 4108951
Abstract: An accelerator pump system is provided which consists of a pump cylinder having an intake port communicating with a float bowl and a discharge port communicated with an acceleration nozzle or pump jet which injects fuel into the throat of a carburetor. The accelerator pump includes a pump plunger which is reciprocally movable within the pump cylinder in response to pivotal movement of the throttle lever of the carburetor. A pump lever and a connecting rod including thermally responsive material such as thermo-wax are in linking arrangement between the pump plunger and the throttle lever in a series relationship in order to control the stroke of the pump plunger thereby to control the amount of fuel which is discharged into the carburetor by the pump system. As a result, the amount of fuel discharged, as well as the lever ratio of the pump lever, i.e. the fuel discharging characteristic thereof, may be controlled in response to changes in ambient temperature.
