Abstract: One or more 1-substituted-2,2,4-trimethylpentane-3-one derivatives represented by the following general formula (1): wherein X represents a benzene ring or a cyclohexane ring; and R represents an arbitrary hydrogen atom on the benzene ring or cyclohexane ring or a methyl group which substitutes the hydrogen atom are incorporated in a bleaching agent composition containing a chlorine-based bleaching agent component such as sodium hypochlorite or oxygen-based bleaching agent component such as sodium perborate.

Abstract: A fragrance, having a 2-cyclohexyl-1,1-dimethyl ethanol derivative represented by formula (1), wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an acetyl group, Me represents a methyl group and n represents an integer from 0 to 3, provides a very pleasing scent, has excellent stability in a product, and can be mixed well with other fragrances.

Abstract: Novel macrocyclic diene ketone compounds useful as fragrance materials are described having the following general formula (I): where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each either a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C4 alkyl, a is the integer 1 or 2 and b is an integer in a range from 1 to 6. Novel pathways are described for synthesizing these macrocyclic diene ketones, as well as saturated and mono-unsaturated macrocyclic ketones having the following general formula (IV): where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C4 alkyl, a is the integer 1 or 2 and b is an integer in a range from 1 to 6.

Abstract: An (E)-(R)-2-alkyl-4-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)-2-buten-1-ol represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and a process for preparing the same comprising hydrogenating a corresponding (E)-(R)-2-alkyl-4-(2,2,3-trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)-2-buten-1-al in the presence of a ruthenium-phosphine complex as a catalyst, a base comprising an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, and an amine. The compound (I) has an excellent sandalwood oil odor.
