  • Publication number: 20100277535
Abstract: A print start position is set to an appropriate position, and the time required for printing is shortened. A printing apparatus, which forms a row of dots from a print start position in a scanning direction to print on a medium to be printed, is provided with a sensor that is capable of detecting an edge, in the scanning direction, of the medium to be printed. The printing apparatus stores the result of detecting the edge of another medium to be printed, and, when printing on the medium to be printed, it reads out the stored detection result and determines the print start position based on that detection result.

  • Patent number: 7748817
Abstract: A liquid ejection apparatus including a liquid ejection head having a nozzle, a cleaning mechanism, and a controller. The controller includes a timer device, first memory section, second memory section, power supply, determining section, and tracked time correction section. If determination of the determining section is positive when the power supply is resumed, the tracked time correcting section reads out tracked time information from the second memory section and causes the timer device to start time tracking from the time indicated by the tracked time information that was stored when power supply to the liquid ejection apparatus was stopped. If the controller determines that the difference between the tracked time and the end time indicated by end time information stored in the first memory section is longer than or equal to a predetermined period, the controller operates the cleaning mechanism to carry out the cleaning.

  • Patent number: 7407251
Abstract: Reliable and quick adjustment of, for example, a print start position is achieved through accurate recognition of the positional relationship between a medium and a reference position used when printing. As regards performing printing by forming dots on a medium using a movable print head, the print head is moved by a first set amount from a reference position used when printing and it prints a first reference pattern on the medium, a position of an edge of the medium on the reference position side in the direction of movement of the print head is detected, and the print head is moved to a position that is apart by a second set amount from the position of the edge that has been detected and it prints a second reference pattern.

  • Patent number: 7303250
Abstract: A liquid ejection head is caused to eject liquid droplets at a region where no target medium is placed, such that such that a first prescribed number of liquid droplets are flushed from each of the nozzle orifices in the nozzle arrays of the first group, and a second prescribed number of liquid droplets are flushed from each of the nozzle orifices in the nozzle arrays of the second group. At least a part of the first prescribed number of liquid droplets and at least a part of the second prescribed number of liquid droplets are flushed by alternately performing a first unit operation for flushing a third prescribed number of liquid droplets which is smaller than the first prescribed number and a second unit operation for flushing a fourth prescribed number of liquid droplets which is smaller than the second prescribed number.

  • Publication number: 20070216720
Abstract: A liquid ejection apparatus including a liquid ejection head having a nozzle, a cleaning mechanism that performs cleaning of the nozzle by drawing a liquid from inside the nozzle, and a controller that controls operation of the liquid ejection apparatus is provided. The controller includes a timer device that tracks time, a first memory section, a second memory section, a power supply, a determining section, and a tracked time correction section. The first memory section stores an end time at which a previous cycle of the cleaning has ended as end time information. The second memory section stores a tracked time tracked by the timer device as tracked time information. The power supply is charged when a power is supplied to the liquid ejection apparatus and supplies the charged power to the timer device when power supply to the liquid ejection apparatus is stopped. The determining section determines whether time tracking by the timer device is stopped.

  • Patent number: 7195332
Abstract: The present invention provides an ink-jet type recording apparatus that accurately compute the remaining amount of waste liquid, thereby utilizing a waste-liquid absorbing function of the waste liquid absorber at a maximum and prevent the waste liquid from leaking outside the apparatus. The ink-jet type recording apparatus includes a first remaining amount counter for managing a remaining amount A of waste liquid of which an evaporation amount is computed based on time information acquired from a host, a second remaining amount counter for managing a remaining amount B of waste liquid of which an evaporation amount is computed in case where there is not time information from the host, and an overflow deciding unit for accurately deciding the remaining amount of waste liquid by adding A and B when computing the total amount of waste liquid in a waste liquid absorber.

  • Patent number: 7178895
Abstract: A method of operation of a liquid ejecting head, includes: reciprocating the liquid ejecting head in a first direction and a second direction which is an inverse direction of the first direction; ejecting liquid droplets from a plurality of nozzles in the liquid ejecting head while moving the head in the first direction thereby forming first patterns; and ejecting liquid droplets while moving the head in the second direction thereby forming second patterns. Each of the second patterns is adjacent to a first pattern so that the second patterns pair with the first patterns. Widths of the first patterns or the second patterns, or both, in the first direction are different so that each pair has a different correction amounts.
