  • Patent number: 6064361
Abstract: In order to perform a multi-gradation display of high quality on a liquid crystal panel (6) by a small-scale A/D converter (1), a 4 - bit A/D converter (1) is equipped with four reference potential couples for performing the dither method using arbitrary two reference potential couples in each of two fields to display a signal at a first pixel. Likewise the remaining two reference potential couples are used for the dither method to display the signal at a second pixel adjacent thereto. In this way, the dither method is applied to adjacent pixels using different reference potential couples to generate an area gradation, so that it is possible to represent 64 gradations owing to the multiple effect of the dither method and the dot area modulation method. Moreover, it is possible to obtain a display of high quality which is free from flicker disturbance since the dither cycle is 1/30 second.

  • Patent number: 5861862
Abstract: A reduction in the number of input/output terminals of the scan electrode drive circuit or signal electrode drive circuit to enable a compact liquid crystal display device. The scan direction is established by the polarity relationship between the sequential scan start signal TPR of the scan electrode drive circuit and the sequential scan timing signal CK. The left-to-right direction of the output data is established by the polarity relationship of the display data latch signal CL of the signal electrode drive circuit and the signal electrode drive voltage output signal CL2. By doing this, the number of input/output terminals required on the scan electrode drive circuit or the signal electrode drive circuit is reduced, enabling implementation of a compact liquid crystal display device.

  • Patent number: 5729072
Abstract: In a stator for an electric motor, insulating members are formed on laminated iron cores divided for each pole-tooth unit in the direction of the output shaft and windings are applied perpendicularly to the pole-tooth portions in a high-density alignment. After a predetermined number of the laminated iron cores are combined so as to form a cylindrical configuration, they are welded at the outer end portions of the dividing surfaces in the direction of lamination so as to construct an integral structure stator with rigidity, thereby enabling high densification of the windings (conductor space factor of 70%) and space-savings in the winding end portions. Further, as any joint portions between the pole-tooth portions are not necessary, reduction (5 to 10%) in motor efficiency due to such joint portions can be prevented, and, as any integrally forming by resinous members is not necessary, inter-winding short-circuiting is not caused. Welding may be replaced by adhesive bonding.

  • Patent number: 5695591
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for manufacturing a laminated product. The method includes the steps of punching out components from a plate with a punch and a die and accommodating the punched components in a component accommodating cylindrical member, emitting a laser beam with a laser beam emitting device to a portion between adjacent components. The components are laminated, one on the other, in the component accommodating cylindrical member. The laser beam passes through a beam passage hole formed in the peripheral surface of the component accommodating cylindrical member. The beam passage hole is located through a predetermined rotational angle range of the component accommodating cylindrical member so as to weld the components to manufacture the laminated product. Also, the die and the component accommodating cylindrical member are rotated by a predetermined angle during the welding operation.

  • Patent number: 5666132
Abstract: An LCD displays an image having gradations according to a dithering technique. The LCD is capable of canceling a direct-current voltage applied to a liquid crystal panel of the LCD. The LCD has an A-D converter for achieving a dithering operation according to reference voltage pairs that are switched from one to another. The LCD employs a phase control signal 20 to control the phase of the dithering operation. The logic value of the phase control signal 20 is changed to switch the reference voltage pairs with respect to a given one of the polarities of a LCD driving voltage applied to the panel. When data provided by the A-D converter involve different gradations, a voltage difference is generated between the LCD driving voltages of different polarities. This voltage difference produces a direct-current voltage in the panel. The present invention cancels the generated direct-current voltage, to prevent images from being stuck into the panel.

  • Patent number: 5621479
Abstract: A method of driving a liquid crystal display device for converting a composite video signal into RGB analog video signals by a chrominance circuit, and controlling the transmittance of each pixel corresponding to each color or red, green and blue on a liquid crystal panel based on the voltage levels of the RGB analog video signals so as to perform color display. The method includes the steps of detecting a color saturation of a picture based on the composite video signal, and controlling the transmittance of a liquid crystal panel based on the transmittance characteristic (T-V curve a) of each pixel relative to normal RGB analog video signals in the case that the color saturation is less than a predetermined value.
