  • Patent number: 8251354
Abstract: A gas spring includes a rod body that has a base end side movable into and out of a cylinder body. The rod body is urged in a direction outward of the cylinder body by pressure from a gas sealed inside the cylinder body. A cylindrical cover body includes a base end portion connected to a distal end portion of the rod body that projects outside of the cylinder body. An end portion of the cover body receives a head end portion of the cylinder body inside a cylindrical cover member at an end portion of the cylinder body. The cover member covers a portion of the spring that would otherwise be exposed to the air between the end portion of the cover body and the end portion of the cylinder body when the cylinder body is contracted inside the cover body.

  • Patent number: 7887031
Abstract: A stay damper comprises a cylinder (1) in which a gas is charged, a piston rod (2) which projects under a pressure of the gas in the cylinder (1), and a stopper (10) which locks contraction of the piston rod (2) in an elongated position. The stopper (10) displaces between a lock position which locks contraction of the piston rod (2) and a release position which permits contraction of the piston rod (2) according to directional operation forces applied by an operator. The stopper (10) comprises a restricting member (12, 13) which holds the stopper (10) in the lock position when it is in the lock position and holds the stopper (10) in the release position when it is in the release position. Since the locking operation of the stopper (10) is performed manually, the releasing operation thereof is easily understood by the operator.

  • Publication number: 20100201052
Abstract: A gas spring is intended to permanently maintain the sealing performance of a lip in a dust seal without being affected by pressure from a gas sealed inside the spring. A rod body is operates in conjunction with a cylinder body with a gas of a predetermined pressure sealed inside the cylinder body. The rod body is movable into and out of the cylinder body. A rod guide is penetrated by the rod body at a shaft core portion inside a head end portion of the cylinder body. A dust seal has with a lip in sliding contact with an outer circumference of the rod body. A sealed end portion of the cylinder body is in contact with an outer end of the rod guide inside the cylinder body. The dust seal is integrally incorporated at the outer end portion of the rod guide.

  • Publication number: 20090097908
Abstract: A dust cover is configured for use with a gas spring inside a vehicle or the like. The dust cover includes a main body portion that surrounds a socket and a cylindrical band portion integrally provided adjacent to the main body portion. The band portion surrounds an arm portion adjacent to and integral with the socket. The main body portion has an opening for receiving a ball head portion of a ball stud. The band portion has a collar portion that covers a connection portion between a base end of the arm portion and an end of a cylinder body or a connection portion between the base end of the arm portion and a distal end of a rod body.

  • Publication number: 20090096140
Abstract: A stopper member forms a part of a lock mechanism in a gas spring. A rod body has a base end side inserted into a cylinder body, with the rod body movable into and out of the cylinder body and urged in an outward direction with respect to the cylinder body by the pressure of a gas sealed inside the cylinder body. A stopper member receives a head end portion of the cylinder body inside the stopper member. A projecting portion of the stopper member is located on an end face opposite an end portion of the cylinder body. The stopper member can be shifted manually between a first position that allows contraction of the rod body into the cylinder body, and a second position in which such contraction is prevented, thereby locking the gas spring in an extended state.

  • Patent number: 7458314
Abstract: A gas spring (1) comprises a piston rod (4) projecting from an open end of a cylinder (2) so as to be able to elongate and contract axially, and a dust seal (10) which is in contact with the piston rod (4) to prevent dust from invading the cylinder (2). By fitting a seal protecting member (21) to the open end of the cylinder (2) to shield the dust seal (10) from exposure to the outside of the cylinder (2), protection of the dust seal (10) from deterioration and damage is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6158559
Abstract: A piston rod is supported free to slide without using a guide bush so that there is no risk of the guide bush falling out. Also, costs are reduced and oil leakage is prevented by eliminating additional procedures such as caulking. The piston rod, which has excellent durability, is allowed to slide smoothly over a long period of time without generating noise. For this purpose, in a bearing unit for a single cylinder type hydraulic damper or gas spring, or a multi-cylinder type hydraulic damper comprising seal members 55, 56, 57 and 64, and a rod guide 6, the rod guide 6 comprises a cylindrical engaging part 13 which engages with a cylinder 2, a cylindrical bearing part 16 which guides a piston rod 5, and a bearing layer 15 fixed to the inner circumferential surface of the cylindrical bearing which slides on the outer surface of the piston rod.
