    Abstract: A cognitive terminal includes different types of radio modules suiting to different types radio media employed by a cognitive base station in the radio communication system. The radio module of the cognitive terminal counts the number of times it receives/transmits ACK/NACK in each unit time. A radio environment cognition unit of the cognitive terminal performs calculations using the count number(s) in consideration of the packet transmission time interval or the time required for repeating a single data packet, thus measuring characteristics of delay time variations in uplink/downlink communication with respect to each radio media. Thus, it is possible for the cognitive terminal to switch over radio media based on ACK/NACK in uplink/downlink communication.

    Abstract: A portable telephone is provided with a first memory 1, a second memory 2, a first CPU 3, a second CPU 4, an interface 5, an antenna 6, a battery 7, and a switch 8. When buildings are collapsed and the user of the portable telephone is left under rubble, a rescuer transmits an emergency signal toward the collapsed site by using a transmission unit. The emergency signal includes key information. The signal is received by the portable telephone and then sent to the first CPU 3 via the antenna 6 and the interface 5. The first CPU 3 compares the key information included in the received signal with key information stored in the first CPU 3. A rescue signal is transmitted via the antenna 6 and the interface 5 on condition that both pieces of key information match. The rescue signal is received by the rescue party and as such, the position of the portable telephone is determined.

The scattering light which scatters from a sample S at a predetermined angle ? with respect to the incident angle, is received through the transparent electrode 63. The Doppler displacement is then measured based on the difference in frequency between the incident light and the outgoing light.

Such a structure is contained inside a base and makes a surface-contact with a heat sink to form a solid state relay.

After the comparison, the transmission and reception unit transmits via an antenna the product information, the telephone number stored in the telephone number memory, and personal-attribute data stored in the personal-attribute memory to a mobile telephone company.
