  • Patent number: 6104865
Abstract: A video signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus which is capable of recording and/or reproducing both high definition and standard television signals is disclosed. Accordingly, video signals of two systems such as the high definition and standard television signals can be recorded and/or reproduced by a single apparatus. The standard television signal is reproduced as a video signal having a high picture quality in a format similar to that of the high definition television signal. Even if the video signal to be recorded is the standard television signal, a reproduced picture having a higher picture quality than that of the standard television signal and having no distortion due to a difference in aspect ratios between the high definition and standard television signals can be provided.

  • Patent number: 5699471
Abstract: An apparatus for recording and reproducing a video signal records all of effective line information required for transmission of respective picture images and voice information together with identification information in mutually resembling track patterns by setting the number of sampled picture elements per line (or block) and the number of lines (or the number of blocks) to be recorded in each track in accordance with a band ratio m of a first record video signal to a second record video signal. With this, it is possible to record and reproduce a plural types of video signals having mutually different bands and also different number of effective scanning lines and signal formats by one apparatus efficiently while checking enlargement of a circuit scale and with almost uniform picture quality performance in accordance with the difference of the bands.

  • Patent number: 5374955
Abstract: Solid-state imaging elements each having a smaller number of pixels are employed to realize an imaging device for taking a high-definition picture which is four or more times larger in the number of pixels than each of the solid-state imaging elements, and also an apparatus for recording/playing back (or transmitting) the high-definition picture. A two-dimensional space which includes, at least, nH spatial sampling points in a horizontal direction and nV spatial sampling points (nV lines) in a vertical direction, totaling (nH.times.nV) spatial sampling points, is imaged under the condition that light is sensed at, at most, 1/2 of the sampling points of the two-dimensional space. Thus, the imaging device delivers as its output a video signal containing effective pixel information items which correspond to the light-sensed sampling points and which are, at most, (nH.times.nV)/2 in terms of the number of pixels.

  • Patent number: 4972335
Abstract: Video signals within one vertical scanning period are divided into a plurality of line block signals. These line block signals are shifted on time base, and a redundant interval (.tau..sub.H) is formed between two line block signals. Further, a plurality of segment signals, each of which includes a plurality of line block signals, are formed. A redundant interval (.tau..sub.S) is formed between two segment signals. The interval of the vertical blanking signal is shortened. Recorded video signals comprise the redundant intervals (.tau..sub.S) and the segment signals including the redundant intervals (.tau..sub.H) and the line block signals. A horizontal synchronizing signal of negative polarity, for example, is added in the redundant interval (.tau..sub.H). Magnetic heads are switched in the redundant interval (.tau..sub.S).

  • Patent number: 4916553
Abstract: In a rotary magnetic head helical scan type video tape recorder using a segment recording system, a video signal of one vertical scanning period is divided into n video signal blocks, where n is an integer equal to or larger than 2, and a redundant period having a selected length is inserted into the video signal blocks in a recording mode. Each of the video signal blocks has a number of horizontal scanning lines equal or smaller than N/n, where N is the number of the horizontal scanning lines in a field of the video signal. In a reproducing mode, a time axis error of reproduced series of the video signal blocks is corrected at least during the redunant periods. Then, the corrected blocks are converted into the original video signal.

  • Patent number: 4907081
Abstract: A coding device in which N digital signals (time-sequential sampled data), obtained by sampling and quantizing analog video signals, are brought together in one group (N being an integer greater than two) and coded. Among these N sampled data, at least one of them serving as a reference is coded with a number of quantization bits n, which is so great that errors due to the quantization can be neglected, and for the other sampled data the difference between the reference sampled data and each of the others is compressed and coded with a number of bits, which is smaller than n. In this way, even if a coding error is produced; effects thereof are restricted within the gorup where it is produced they are not exerted on the other groups, and thus error propagation does not occur.

  • Patent number: 4873582
Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic recording-playback apparatus suitable for recording and reproducing a signal including a broad-band composite video signal and a method therefor. The broad-band signal is time-sliced into signals in two channels, and each divided signal is expanded on the time axis so that it is converted into a lower-band signal before being recorded on a magnetic tape. In the time axis expansion process, the vertical blanking signal and/or horizontal blanking signal is not expanded, whereby the divided video signals have a still lower frequency band.
