  • Patent number: 9821749
Abstract: A lateral partition of a side airbag apparatus extends in a front-rear direction to divide the interior of an airbag into an upper inflation chamber and a lower inflation chamber. A vertical partition extends vertically and includes a communication portion. The vertical partition divides the upper inflation chamber into an upper-rear inflation chamber, to which inflation gas from a gas generator is supplied, and an upper-front inflation chamber, to which the inflation gas is supplied via the communication portion. An inner tube regulates the flow of the inflation gas to direct to the upper-rear inflation chamber and the lower inflation chamber. The rear ends of two first fabric portions of the vertical partition are joined to the upper parts of the front ends of two second fabric portions of the inner tube by a first vertical joint portion.

  • Patent number: 7909356
Abstract: An airbag apparatus includes an airbag that has a first portion and a second portion. The airbag is folded such that the first portion approaches the second portion. The folded airbag has an elongated shape extending along a first direction. An inlet 12a is formed in the airbag 5. By receiving the supply of gas through the inlet 12a, the folded airbag 5 is inflated while being deployed in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, such that the first portion moves away from the second portion. The inlet 12a is arranged in a part of the folded airbag 5 that is located in a trailing side in the second direction. A first attachment portion 16 is provided in the same part of the folded airbag 5. A second attachment portion 27 is provided in each of the ends of the folded airbag 5. The folded airbag 5 is installed in a ceiling of a vehicle 2 by means of the first attachment portion 16 and the second attachment portions 27.

  • Publication number: 20090236832
Abstract: An airbag 33 has a plurality of vertical inflatable cells 37 to 40 each serving as an inflatable portion and non-inflatable portions 41, 45, each of which is arranged between a corresponding adjacent pair of the vertical inflatable cells 37 to 40 and formed by a fabric sheet 34B. The vertical inflatable cells 37 to 40 are deployed and inflated by inflation gas at positions beside corresponding headrests 14L, 14R of the rearmost seat. In contrast, the non-inflatable portions 41, 45 deploy behind the headrests 14L, 14R without inflating. The vertical inflatable cells 37 to 40 include vertical inflatable cells 38, 39 located at the center of the direction of the width of the vehicle and side vertical inflatable cells 37, 40 arranged at both sides of the direction of the width of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20080150263
Abstract: An airbag apparatus of a vehicle is provided with an airbag deployed and inflated mainly in a portion of a passenger compartment of the vehicle rearward of a rear seat. Prior to deployment and inflation, the airbag has a bellows portion formed by folding a portion of the airbag near a gas inlet port into an accordion shape, and a roll portion formed by folding a portion of the airbag far from the gas inlet port into a roll shape, and is accommodated between a roof panel and a roof headlining of a vehicle in such a manner that the gas inlet port is positioned on a front side. Between the roof panel and the roof headlining, the bellows portion is arranged substantially above or substantially below the roll portion in such a manner that the flat sections are overlapped with each other substantially in a vertical direction.
