  • Patent number: 5761710
Abstract: An information recording/reproducing apparatus wherein the CPU stores data transferred through an interface in a temporary storage area and later records the data in a recording medium by using a recording/reproducing means. The temporary storage area is divided into first and a second regions by a temporary storage region disposition device. A discriminator determines whether the process-requested region is an information managing region or a data region from the process requests made by the host computer and the temporary storage region managing information. Based on the result of this discrimination, the temporary storage region manager allocates the first region if the data is for information managing or the second region if the data is intended for data storage.

  • Patent number: 5580458
Abstract: An apparatus for waste water treatment, wherein fluorine contained in waste water is treated into a fluoride through a chemical reaction and sludge containing the fluoride is thickened and dehydrated into a sludge cake, has first and second tanks each packed with calcium carbonate mineral. In the first tank, waster water containing fluorine is agitated by air discharged from an air diffuser and caused to react with the calcium carbonate mineral. Through this reaction of the waste water with the calcium carbonate mineral and action of microorganisms on the surface of the calcium carbonate mineral, a pH value and a fluorine concentration of the waste water is adjusted till the pH value and the fluorine concentration fall within their respective predetermined ranges.

  • Patent number: 5559023
Abstract: A detailed genetic map on human chromosome 11 was prepared. Then, a commonly deleted region on the chromosome in the tumor tissues of patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 was identified. Further, by linkage analysis of a family line with this disease, a genetic cause for this disease was localized. A gene present in the region common to these observations was cloned and the structure of this gene was determined. Because a protein coded by this DNA is homologous with those of transcriptional factors, it is expected that the above-mentioned gene may be a novel tumor suppressor gene. Further, it is also expected that the above-mentioned gene and a protein coded for thereby may be useful in preparation of a remedy for cancer and a diagnostic drug for cancer.

  • Patent number: 5544389
Abstract: A sliver piecing machine which can decrease the time of the sliver piecing work and which permits replacement of an empty can row by a full sliver can row between the work of cutting the spun sliver and the subsequent sliver piecing work. The sliver piecing machine is moved along traveling rails placed above the can rows. A housing of the sliver piecing machine has a sliver cutting device and a sliver piecing device which are respectively provided on the front and rear sides in the direction of movement of the sliver piecing machine along the traveling rails. The sliver piecing machine performs only the sliver cutting work in the forward movement thereof, and only the sliver piecing work in the backward movement. After the sliver cutting work, the empty can row is replaced by the full can row, and the sliver piecing work is then performed.
