  • Patent number: 6567739
Abstract: A control system of an internal combustion engine in a vehicle, for improving the self-diagnosis accuracy and decreasing the frequency of stopping the self-diagnosis process, is disclosed. The system comprises a self-diagnosis section for executing self-diagnosis of the internal combustion engine; a load control section for controlling a load imposed on the internal combustion engine; and a normal driving control section for maintaining a normal driving state in which a variation of the load imposed on the internal combustion engine is suppressed, by operating the load control section while the self-diagnosis is being executed by the self-diagnosis section and while the current driving state of the vehicle is in a predetermined driving range.

  • Patent number: 6550318
Abstract: An abnormality diagnosis apparatus for performing a leak check of an evaporative fuel processing system which includes a fuel tank, a canister for storing evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank, a purging passage for connecting the canister to an intake system of an internal combustion engine, and a purge control valve provided in the purging passage. A process of reducing the pressure in the evaporative fuel processing system is executed with a limited flow rate of gases passing through the purge control valve when performing the leak check in an idling condition of the engine. The limited flow rate is set to a value equal to or smaller than a predetermined flow rate which is smaller than the maximum flow rate applied to the leak check performed in operating conditions other than the idling condition. The leak check is performed on the basis of a change in the pressure in the evaporative fuel processing system after the pressure reduction process.

  • Publication number: 20030057149
Abstract: In a suction filter, a synthetic resin upper plate 4 to be connected to a fuel inlet pipe is integrally molded with an upper filtering fabric 2, and a synthetic resin lower plate 5 is integrally molded with a lower filtering fabric. Two end portions of a spring are fixed to the upper and lower plates, and the peripheral portions of the upper and lower filtering fabrics are bonded together to obtain a filtering fabric bag. Thus, there is no such risk that the filtering fabric bag comes off the inlet pipe, the filtering fabric bag is worn out, and creases and poor bonding occur. Thus, the suction filter can be obtained with high reliability and good productivity.

  • Patent number: 6520249
Abstract: High-temperature-side hydrogen storage alloy containers each containing a hydrogen storage alloy are disposed as a heat exchanging portion in high-temperature-side heat exchangers. Low-temperature waste-heat gas generated in a micro gas turbine is imported into the heat exchangers so that direct heat exchange is performed between the waste-heat gas and each of the alloy containers. On the other hand, low-temperature-side hydrogen storage alloy containers each containing a hydrogen storage alloy are disposed as a heat exchanging portion in low-temperature-side heat exchangers. The high-temperature-side alloy containers and the low-temperature-side alloy containers are connected to each other by hydrogen-travelling pipes. Cold heat generated in the low-temperature-side heat exchangers is supplied to a refrigeration output portion.

  • Patent number: 6470862
Abstract: When a leakage fault occurs in the evaporated fuel processing system of a fuel tank, a control system reliably prevents leakage of the evaporated fuel from the point where the leakage fault has occurred. The fuel tank and a canister are connected to each other via a charge passage having a bypass valve, and the canister and an intake passage of an engine are connected to each other via a purge passage having a purge control valve. When a leakage fault occurs in the fuel tank (or the charge passage upstream of the bypass valve), the bypass valve and the purge control valve are opened and an atmosphere release control valve provided on the canister, is closed.

  • Publication number: 20020096220
Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus has a sub tank inside a main tank that stores a fuel, and a jet pump nozzle inside the sub tank. A part of the fuel taken in from the sub tank to be supplied to an engine is sprayed from a tip of the jet pump nozzle. The fuel inside the main tank is drawn into the sub tank from a bottom part by a negative pressure caused by the jet pump nozzle. A holding device for holding the jet pump nozzle in the sub tank is provided between the sub tank and the jet pump nozzle when the jet pump nozzle is inserted into the sub tank. Therefore, it becomes possible to assemble the jet pump nozzle and the fuel supply system in advance outside the sub tank, and after that, to attach that jet pump nozzle to the sub tank.

  • Patent number: 6422226
Abstract: A highly stable engine failure diagnosing system free from influence of purging is presented. A monitoring apparatus for monitoring a fuel feed system of an internal combustion engine is provided with an A/F ratio detector and an A/F ratio controller for performing feedback control of the A/F ratio. An A/F ratio feedback coefficient is calculated according to the output of the detector. A malfunction determination parameter is calculated based on the coefficient. A purging is suspended when the parameter reaches a first decision value. The monitoring is suspended when the parameter reaches a second decision value in a purge cutting state. A value of the malfunction determination parameter it would take if the purge cut was not carried out is estimated using the value when the parameter reached the first decision value. The monitoring is resumed when the estimated value of the malfunction determination parameter reaches the second decision value.

  • Patent number: 6397585
Abstract: A catalyst temperature estimating apparatus is provided, capable of estimating the temperature of the catalyst installed in an internal combustion engine on a vehicle by providing various catalyst temperature estimating parameters, when the internal combustion engine is in an idle stop. When it is determined that the internal combustion engine is stopped by determining whether the internal combustion engine is stopped, the temperature of the catalyst is estimated based on temperature coefficients during the engine stop. Estimation of the catalyst temperature even when the engine is in an idle stop makes it possible to accurately and promptly estimate the catalyst temperature when the engine is restarted from the idle stop.
