  • Patent number: 5599467
Abstract: An aluminum weldment is produced by resistance-welding aluminum workpieces, and has a nugget formed between the aluminum workpieces which contains more magnesium than the base material of the aluminum workpieces. The nugget contains 5.about.17 wt % of magnesium which forms a solid solution with aluminum.

  • Patent number: 5565117
Abstract: Workpieces of aluminum alloy are resistance-welded while a powdery mixture of magnesium and a metal oxide is being interposed between regions of workpieces of aluminum alloy which are to be joined to each other. The metal oxide may comprise at least one material selected from the group consisting of TiO.sub.2, SiO.sub.2, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, MnO.sub.2, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, CuO, and Ti.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the powdery mixture may include aluminum powder. The workpieces may be made of aluminum, stainless steel, or the like rather than aluminum alloy.

  • Patent number: 5300157
Abstract: An Al-based intermetallic compound in which a eutectic crystal type Al-CuMn intermetallic compound dispersion phase is dispersed in an Al-Cu intermetallic compound matrix phase. The content of Mn as a eutectic crystal-forming element contained in the dispersion phase is set in a range of from 5% by weight (inclusive) to 30% by weight (inclusive). In the course of solidification of the Al-Cu-Mn intermetallic compound, an infinite number of dispersion phases are first crystallized, and the matrix phase is then crystallized. This ensures that the matrix phase is formed into a fine crystal structure due to hindrance of the growth thereof by the dispersion phase, leading to increases in hardness and toughness of the resulting Al-based intermetallic compound. In another embodiment, the Al-based intermetallic compound contains peritectic type Al-based intermetallic dispersion phase, such as formed by Ta, dispersed in the intermetallic compound matrix phase.

  • Patent number: 5058804
Abstract: An automatic hot water supply apparatus produces and supplies hot water by mixing, with a hot water/cold water mixing valve, hot water supplied from an instantaneous water heater unit through a hot water supply pipe and cold water supplied through a cold water supply pipe. The automatic hot water supply apparatus includes a flow rate control valve actuatable by an electric actuator, and a flow rate limiting unit responsive to a hot water temperature setting, or a season setting, or a detected hot water temperature, for varying the flow rate of mixed hot water. The electric actuator is controlled by a signal from the flow rate limiting unit to operate the flow rate control valve in order to solve the problems of a low water temperature during the winter, an excessive hot water flow rate, and a low instantaneous water heater unit capability, so that the automatic hot water supply apparatus can supply hot water at a desired temperature.

  • Patent number: 4485296
Abstract: The automatic temperature control device for an electric appliance such as an electric blanket comprises a heater element, a sensor made of a thermosensitive material having an impedance, which changes as the temperature varies, for detecting the temperature of the heater element, switching means for regulating the supply of electric power to the heater element, and a plurality of electric circuits for driving the switching means in response to the output signal from the sensor. The plurality of electric circuits function to prevent the sensor from being polarized and to detect a temperature signal by applying thereto an alternating current, to detect a failure occurring in the electric circuits in synchronism with zero-crossing pulses, and to detect a failure occurring in the switching means, thereby assuring a safe operation of the automatic temperature control device against the occurrence of any failure.

  • Patent number: 4089947
Abstract: Novel antibiotics, termed validamycins C, D, E and F, and acid salts thereof, are prepared by cultivating a validamycin-producing strain of microorganism of the genus Streptomyces, and optionally converting the free base to its acid salt. These antibiotics, as well as validoxylamines A and B, are useful for controlling plant diseases, and can be applied to the plants in the form of the cultured broth, filtrate or concentrate thereof, or purified preparation thereof.
