    Abstract: A tensioner device for applying a predetermined tension force to a transmission belt extended between a driving wheel and a driven wheel supported on the body of an internal combustion engine, including a hydraulic automatic adjuster which comprises a plunger case fitted in a cylinder bore through a seal member and a plunger slidably and axially movably fitted in the plunger case, open edges of the plunger case and plunger being sealed from outside by means of a flexible boot. An extra feed oil chamber formed within the plunger is in communication with a feed oil source by means of a closed oil path through a feed oil port and in communication with an oil reservoir by means of another closed oil path through an oil discharge port provided in a spaced relation from the feed oil port.

    Abstract: An improved carburetor for vehicle engines of the down draft type having a suction duct connected to an intake manifold, a float chamber storing a predetermined constant quantity of engine fuel and arranged on one side of the suction duct in the transverse direction of a vehicle equipped with the carburetor, and a vertically extending fuel passage connected at one end to the float chamber and at the other end to a main fuel nozzle opening into the suction duct, the carburetor being capable of holding the fuel contained in the fuel passage at all times at a predetermined constant level for highly stabilized fuel supply to the engine irrespective of lateral or longitudinal inclinations of the fuel surface in the float chamber occurring under conditions of acceleration, deceleration or turning of the vehicle.

    Abstract: A first choke valve is mounted in a main intake passage carrying a lean mixture to a main combustion chamber, and a second choke valve is mounted in an auxiliary intake passage carrying a rich mixture to a relatively small auxiliary chamber. Spark ignition of the mixture in the auxiliary combustion chamber projects a flame through a torch nozzle connecting the chambers to ignite the lean mixture in the main combustion chamber. Control of the main choke valve for moderately cold starting or extremely cold starting is accomplished automatically by means of a control element driven by a heat responsive bimetal element, or by means of a manually operated control element. In either case, overtravel of the control element after the main choke valve closes stores energy in a spring to increase closing torque of the main choke valve, and also moves the auxiliary choke valve toward closed position, to improve engine startability under extremely cold conditions.

    Abstract: A dual carburetor system employs a main carburetor to supply a lean mixture to the main combustion chambers of an engine and an auxiliary carburetor to supply a rich mixture to the auxiliary combustion chambers of the engine. Each carburetor has a choke valve operated by a thermo-responsive device. Each carburetor has a locking lever which cooperates with an element connected to its choke valve to lock the choke valve in open position. A device responsive to temperature of the engine coolant operates a single member which moves both locking levers to locking position upon increase in temperature of the engine coolant.

    Abstract: A choke valve control device is provided for an internal combustion piston engine in which each cylinder is provided with a main combustion chamber and an auxiliary combustion chamber connected by a torch nozzle. A first carburetor supplies lean mixture to the main chamber and a second carburetor supplies rich mixture to the auxiliary chamber, and each carburetor is provided with a choke valve. The choke valve of the first carburetor may be automatically operated by means of a bimetal element or may be manually actuated. Both choke valves are provided with biasing means tending to move them toward closed position, respectively, and each is provided with valve opening means responsive to engine operation.
