    Abstract: An image processing apparatus receives an input image signal generated by combining a plurality of image signals with different bit precisions, and generates an output image signal obtained by increasing the number of gradation steps of the input image signal by bit extension. The image processing apparatus includes an intermediate signal generation section which generates an intermediate signal according to the input image signal. The intermediate signal corrects the input image signal such that a pixel value corresponding to a halftone added by the bit extension is included in the output image signal. The image processing apparatus further includes a nonlinear filter to perform a nonlinear process on a pixel value of the intermediate signal.
