  • Patent number: 11868515
Abstract: Computer generated (CG) hair for a virtual character can include strand-based (instanced) hair in which many thousands of digital strands represent real human hair strands. Strand-based hair can appear highly realistic, but rendering strand-based hair in real-time presents challenges. Techniques for generating textured polygon strip (poly strip) hair for a virtual character can use as an input previously-generated strand-based hair for the virtual character. Poly strips can be generated for a sampled set of strands in the strand-based hair. Additional poly strips may be generated near hairlines or part lines. Hair textures from a hair texture library can be matched to the poly strips. The matched textures can be scaled and packed into a region of texture space (e.g., a square region), which provides improved computer access, efficiency, and speed. A rendering engine can use the poly strips and the packed hair textures to render the character's hair in real-time.

  • Publication number: 20230258942
Abstract: A user may interact and view virtual elements such as avatars and objects and/or real world elements in three-dimensional space in an augmented reality (AR) session. The system may allow one or more spectators to view from a stationary or dynamic camera a third person view of the users AR session. The third person view may be synchronized with the user view and the virtual elements of the user view may be composited onto the third person view.

  • Publication number: 20230103046
Abstract: Provided is a vehicle equipped with a steer-by-wire type steering device and designed to ensure that a wheel-turning actuator is activated before the vehicle starts traveling, thereby improving the reliability of steering while the vehicle is traveling. A vehicle 1 includes: a steering member 15 for receiving steering operations; a wheel-turning actuator 19 mechanically separated from the steering member 15 and configured to turn wheels; a state switching device 6 for switching between a fixed state in which the vehicle is fixed at a current position and a release state in which the vehicle is released from being fixed at the current position; and a control device 9 for controlling the wheel-turning actuator 19 and the state switching device 6, wherein the control device permits the state switching device to switch from the fixed state to the release state only on or after completion of activation of the wheel-turning actuator.

  • Patent number: 11557076
Abstract: A computer generated (CG) hair groom for a virtual character can include strand-based (also referred to as instanced) hair in which many thousands of digital strands represent real human hair strands. Embodiments of systems and methods for transferring CG hair groom data from a first (or source) virtual character to a second (or target) virtual character are provided. Some embodiments can factor in a difference between a hairline of the first virtual character and a hairline of the second virtual character to improve the overall appearance or fit of the hair groom on the second virtual character.

  • Publication number: 20220250674
Abstract: Provided is an electric power steering device including: a motor; a drive device that supplies the motor with three-phase alternating current electric power; and a control device that controls the drive device, in which the control device is connected to a first power supply path that supplies power to the control device not via an ignition switch and a second power supply path that supplies power to the control device via the ignition switch, and the control device, in a case of detecting a failing of the first power supply path, operates with power supplied from the second power supply path and makes the motor generate an electromagnetic brake.

  • Patent number: 8710775
Abstract: An electric power steering apparatus detects, as an abnormal phase, a phase other than a combination of phases whose interphase voltage is of nearly zero volts if a q-axis current is equal to or smaller than a first threshold value though a q-axis voltage is being applied. Alternatively, the electric power steering apparatus calculates a base electric angle at which the q-axis current is equal to or smaller than a third threshold value though the q-axis voltage is being applied, and determines an abnormal phase based on the base electric angle.

  • Patent number: 7253546
Abstract: An electric motor driven by three-phase electric power includes armature windings that are connected in series, via an armature-winding connecting line, for each of a plurality of groups of three or N circumferentially-adjoining poles to thereby provide three-phase armature windings, wherein N is an arbitrary number equal to a multiple of three. The armature-winding connecting line connects in series the adjoining armature windings in such a way as to not substantially straddle a relatively great part of the outer periphery of any of the adjoining armature windings.
