    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of the type-specific detection of herpes simplex virus, characterized by comprising the step of DNA amplification in a liquid mixture containing either of a combination of a first DNA primer containing an oligonucleotide having at least 15 bases in a base sequence of the formula (1a) ##STR1## with a second DNA primer containing an oligonucleotide having at least 15 bases in a base sequence of the formula (2a): ##STR2## or a combination of a first DNA primer containing an oligonucleotide having at least 15 bases in a base sequence of the formula (1b): ##STR3## with a second DNA primer containing an oligonucleotide having at least 15 bases in a base sequence of the formula (2b): ##STR4## a DNA polymerase and an aqueous liquid sample; and then the step of DNA examination on the resultant reaction solution.According to the present invention, it is possible to differentiate infectious disease caused by the HSV I or HSV II, accurately and rapidly in a type specific manner.
