An MPU 12, a spindle motor driver 38, and a spindle motor 40 constitute a decelerator for decelerating rotation of the information recording medium, and as a deceleration mode, a first deceleration mode with a relatively large power consumption and a second deceleration mode with a relatively small power consumption are disposed. The MPU 12 monitors a voltage of a power supply line 13 via a DSP 16, decelerates the rotation of the information recording medium in the first deceleration mode when the voltage exceeds a predetermined level, and decelerates the rotation of the information recording medium in the second deceleration mode when the voltage indicates the predetermined level or less.

    Abstract: In a heater unit, comprising a lower metallic base, an upper metallic base placed closely over an upper surface of said lower base, and a resistance heater wire received in a groove defined between opposing surfaces of said lower and upper bases, ceramic powder is filled in said groove to keep said heater wire at least away from a wall surface of said groove. Thus, the heater wire can be directly installed in the groove of the base without the intervention of a sheath pipe so that the heater wire can be bent in a desired dense pattern, and the heater unit can be heated both rapidly and uniformly. Also, the ceramic powder filled in the groove improves the heat transfer, and this even further enhances the these advantages of the present invention.

    Abstract: An upper metallic base is placed over a lower metallic base with a resistance heater element interposed between them so as to cause a plastic deformation to at least one of the opposing surfaces until the corresponding surfaces conform to an outer profile of the heater element, and the opposing surfaces of the lower and upper bases, and the resistance heater element are substantially entirely bonded to one another by a metallic bonding which may consist of brazing, soldering or diffusion bonding. Because the metallic bonding provides a favorable heat conduction, and can thereby improve the thermal efficiency and prevent local heating, a rapid temperature rise and uniform heating are made possible. Because the base consists of two parts, the material for the base can be selected from a wide range of materials including those capable of withstanding high temperatures and corrosive materials.

From the measurement results, a relation of the instruction values to an arbitrary power in each D/A converter is obtained by a linear approximation and registered into a power table. When deciding an optimum writing power by a test write, a limit power on the lower limit side is detected while gradually decreasing the writing power from a starting power and a predetermined offset is added to the detected limit power, thereby obtaining the optimum writing power.

A drive current of the load motor is turned on or off at a short period, thereby adjusting so as to optimize a drive torque. When an exchangeable optical disc is loaded, a motor is activated, an initialization control is executed during the acceleration, and after a motor rotational speed reached a specific speed, the apparatus enables the writing/reading operations to be executed.

Upon reaching a predetermined value by the count of the first counter, a second counter stored in a non-volatile memory is updated. Upon reaching a predetermined value by the second counter, a cleaning request is sent to the upper order system for display on a CRT, and a cleaning request flag in a non-volatile memory is set. When the end of cleaning of the apparatus is recognized, the cleaning request flag in the non-volatile memory is cleared.
