    Abstract: An improvement in a method of lubricating an alcohol-based fuel engine with an engine oil composition, the improvement which comprises using as said composition an engine oil composition comprising a lubricating base oil and about 0.01 to 10% by weight based on the total weight of the engine oil composition of an alkaline-earth metal borate. Thus prepared engine oil compositions for alcohol-based fuel engines of the present invention are superior to the prior art compositions in capacity for neutralizing formic acid, wear resistance, and stability against hydrolysis.
