Abstract: An image processing apparatus for performing screen processing on input image data via passes may include a screen processing unit, a detection unit, and a correction unit. The screen processing unit receives image data as received image data and performs screen processing on the received image data to produce screen-processed image data. The detection unit detects a difference of low frequency components between the received image data and the screen-processed image data. The correction unit corrects the screen-processed image data based on a difference detected by the detection unit. On subsequent passes, a process of at least one of the screen processing unit, the detection unit, and the correction unit is repeated to convert the input image data to screen-processed image.

  • Publication number: 20110267394
Abstract: The relationship between the applying amounts of colored inks and the thickness of the layer of a color material formed on a recording medium, and the relationship between the applying amount of uncolored ink and the thickness of the layer of the color material formed on the recording medium are acquired. Based on the relationships between the applying amounts and the thickness of the layer of the color material, the applying amounts of colored inks and the applying amount of uncolored ink are determined to substantially uniform the thickness of the layer of the color material when forming an image on a recording medium. A color separation table for color-separating image data is generated based on the applying amounts of colored inks and the applying amount of uncolored ink.

  • Patent number: 7837283
Abstract: In a multipass printing system, a quality image is printed even when the number of passes is reduced to increase a printing speed. For this purpose, in a multipass printing system which repetitively alternates a printing scan, which causes the print head to eject ink from the nozzles as it moves in the main scan direction, and a feeding operation, which feeds a print medium in a sub scan direction, the feed distance of the print medium is set according to a density of an image being printed on the print medium.

Abstract: There is provided an ink jet printing apparatus capable of printing an image having few joining stripes. Dot count is performed regarding an image printed in the vicinity of the joining stripe, and print duty is judged. Next, a dot count value is determined from the print duty. Then, a print data correction rank is determined beforehand in accordance with properties of the printing apparatus, and image data to be printed in the vicinity of the joining stripe is added or thinned out. Thus, an image can be printed which has few black and white stripes.

  • Patent number: 7585040
Abstract: A printing apparatus divides printing elements of a printhead into blocks, time-divisionally drives the printing elements, and prints a halftone image on a printing medium in accordance with a result obtained by performing digital-halftoning for input multi-valued image data in each matrix of a predetermined size. The apparatus includes a scanner for reciprocally scanning the printhead, a conveyor for conveying the printing medium in a direction different from a scanning direction of the printhead, and a controller for printing a halftone image in each matrix. An arrayed direction of the printing elements is the convey direction of the conveyor. The controller sets a size of the block to be equal to or an integral multiple of a size of the matrix in the convey direction. The digital-halftoning increases the number of dots from a center of the matrix as a density expressed by the multi-valued image data increases.
