  • Publication number: 20080184068
Abstract: A management device stores configuration history information indicating a history of system configuration changes, from this information, specifies a system configuration of a recovery time, which is a certain point in time in the past, specifies a system configuration of the current time, and compares the system configuration of the recovery time with the system configuration of the current time, and based on the results of this comparison, specifies whether or not there is a system configuration part in the system configuration of the current time for which, if data of the recovery time is recovered, a setting change is required in order to access this recovered data. When this system configuration part is specified, the management device constructs a system configuration for enabling a data utilization unit to access the recovered data by issuing an indication related to a required setting change to an element capable of carrying out the setting change for this system configuration part.

  • Patent number: 7406622
Abstract: A SAN manager acquires configuration information from devices constituting a SAN and produces a corresponding relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume (virtual volume mapping) and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume (real volume mapping). Based on those pieces of mapping information, the SAN manager outputs a corresponding relationship between virtual and real volumes. Meanwhile, the failure notification messages received from the in-SAN devices are construed to detect and output an influence of the failure upon the access to a real or virtual volume. Furthermore, when receiving a plurality of failure notifications from the devices connected to the SAN, the plurality of failure notifications are outputted with an association based on the corresponding relationship between real and virtual volumes.

  • Publication number: 20080065848
Abstract: A remote copy network realizes low-cost multi-hop remote copying. Remote copying is executed via a remote copy network (RCN) having a source edge device connected to a source storage and a target edge device connected to a target storage. Because the RCN is a network provided by a network business, a user having a storage device can execute remote copying without owning or managing the RCN. The source edge device receives remote copy I/O from the source storage, creates a log entry to which a sequential number is added, and sends the log entry to a target edge device. The target edge device acquires the remote copy I/O from the received log entry, and sends the remote copy I/O to the target storage in the order of the sequential number.

  • Publication number: 20080022042
Abstract: In a cluster-structured disk subsystem, when creating a volume for an online backup separately from a volume for a normal I/O, it is desirable to be able to achieve such a creation for any volume under subsystem. Further, with an increase in the capacity of the subsystem, it becomes more difficult for a user to determine where to place a volume to which data is to be copied. Thus, a cluster-structured storage system is provided in which it is possible to reference/renew snapshot control information in shared memory of other clusters and achieve a snapshot between clusters via an inter-cluster connecting mechanism. In this system, control is performed inside/outside the cluster, and a control is performed inside/outside the cluster, and a volume to which data is to be copied is suggested to the user.

  • Patent number: 7308528
Abstract: A storage device system comprises interfaces connected to computers, a plurality of magnetic disks, and a control device that controls the plurality of magnetic disks. When a command from one of the computers instructing a tape library device to load a magnetic tape into a tape device is received by one of the interfaces, the control device selects a storage region that is managed as a virtual tape from among storage regions of the magnetic disks. When one of the interfaces receives an access request from the computer to the tape device, the control device controls to access the storage region selected.

  • Patent number: 7305584
Abstract: A host and a storage system each keep a shared identifier indicating a state of a system. The storage system acquires, at update of data, a data pair including data for a change through processing of the host and data before the update. The storage system relates the data pair to a shared identifier. When the host indicates an identifier, the storage system restores data using the data pair.

  • Publication number: 20070174721
Abstract: Provided is an environment that storage device configuration management can be efficiently done in a data center having a virtualization device. A SAN manager acquires configuration information from a device constituting a SAN and prepares a correspondence relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume in the SAN, and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume, depending upon the acquired information. Based on the corresponding relationship, the SAN manager outputs a correspondence relationship of between virtual and real volumes. Meanwhile, by interpreting a failure-notification message received from the devices of the SAN, detected and outputted is an influence upon an access to a real or virtual volume as to the failure.

  • Publication number: 20070079078
Abstract: Data states of storage apparatuses are managed. When a storage apparatus is allocated from a storage pool to a computer, management information written in the storage apparatus is erased if the data state of the storage apparatus is unknown. When the storage apparatus becomes unnecessary and is restored to the storage pool, the management information is also erased. Further, when the storage apparatus is allocated to the computer, a level of confidentiality is set. When the storage apparatus is restored to the storage pool, data in the storage apparatus is automatically erased according to the set level of confidentiality.
