  • Publication number: 20190113755
Abstract: First display elements and first ocular optical systems perform display in a first display region on a front side with respect to an observer, whereas second display elements and second ocular optical systems perform display in second display regions on peripheral sides with respect to the observer. Thus, a superimposed region of the display regions is provided in a position outside a central side of a person's visual field having an excellent information receiving capacity, and a wide angle of view is achieved while preventing the boundary from being visually identified. Further, the whole device is reduced in size and thickness by providing the plurality of display elements.

  • Patent number: 10247945
Abstract: In a projection system, providing a stop that forms an opening that is symmetric with respect to a first flat plane including the projection system optical axis and a first axis that extends in parallel to the first direction and intersects the projection system optical axis but asymmetric with respect to a second flat surface including the projection system optical axis and a second axis that extends in parallel to the second direction and intersects the projection system optical axis allows appropriate light adjustment at the stop even when pencils of light from the points in a video device exit at different angles along a second direction, whereby high-quality video images can be provided with the size of an optical system further reduced and therefore the size of an overall virtual image display apparatus reduced.

  • Publication number: 20190094519
Abstract: By configuring a micro structure portion, an image display device, and an eyepiece optical system to satisfy Expression (1), a diffusion effect of an appropriate extent can be imparted to image light with a relatively simple configuration, by taking into account the size of each of pixels constituting the image display device that is an image element, gaps between the pixels are made less noticeable, and a favorable state of visibility of an image can be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20190094550
Abstract: An eyepiece optical system is configured to form a non-telecentric optical system together with an image display unit serving as an image element, and to include the pixels in which a pixel in a peripheral region and the like on an image display has a larger size than a pixel in a central region on the image display. Accordingly, the central region that supports a wide angle of view and is of the image display on the image element having an effective field of view with a good performance of information capacity, makes it possible to retain image formation with high resolution, and to prevent an image from being degraded in the peripheral region, thus making it possible to ensure high-quality visibility.

  • Publication number: 20190079299
Abstract: By removing part of a lens effective diameter range in a cut lens, a lens is reduced in size and weight in an HMD that trends toward a larger device size. At this time, by making an area to be removed within the lens effective diameter range to be an area on a nose side, reductions in size and weight can be achieved while considering influence on image quality or fitting to a human face.

  • Publication number: 20190079234
Abstract: A half mirror 21 provided in an optical path bends the optical path, and a semi-transmissive polarizing plate 23 increases the transmittance of image light GL in a direction along alignment of the eyes of an observer while the virtual image display device has a wide angle of view and is downsized, thus reducing luminance unevenness between the central region and the peripheral region in the image in the direction and allowing the observer to view a high quality image.

  • Patent number: 10228567
Abstract: Principal rays of component lights output from a periphery side of respective positions of an image surface generated in an image generation unit forming an image display device are controlled in an intensity distribution control unit so that the principal rays may be inclined more largely toward a center optical axis side than principal rays of component lights output from a center side and output, control is performed so that lights are output in the strongest intensity distributions with respect to axial directions of the principal rays of the respective component lights of image lights output in the respective positions by the intensity distribution control unit, and further, the positions can be adjusted by adjustment of output angles of the respective component lights in response to an aspect ratio of the image surface.

  • Patent number: 10180576
Abstract: A half mirror layer has an angle dependency in which when an angle of incidence becomes larger than the angle of incidence range of image light, reflectance increases, such that it is possible to prevent unintended light, which is emitted to a light transmitting member from a light guiding member and is reflected inside a light transmitting member, from being returned to a Eight emission portion of the light guiding member after passing through the half mirror layer as a reflective film at a relatively large angle of incidence. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the image light passed through the light transmitting member from becoming ghost light while mitigating the demand for increasing processing accuracy of the light transmitting member, and bonding accuracy between the light guiding member and the light transmitting member, to provide a high quality virtual image displayed by a virtual image display device.

  • Patent number: 10108015
Abstract: A light guide device that does not cause non-uniformity in image light and external light and does not cause ghosts, and a virtual image display apparatus provided with the light guide device. The light guide device includes a parallel light guide, an incident section, and an emission section. Here, the light guide device is set such that image light rays are reflected without reflecting from a boundary surface between the parallel light guide and the reflection unit and head for an observer. Thus, the image light rays only pass through half mirrors, which are positioned in positions where the image light rays are emitted from the reflection unit of the emission section or are positioned therearound. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent luminance non-uniformity or light reduction by reducing the number of times of the image light rays to be observed pass through the half mirrors.
