  • Patent number: 4674994
Abstract: A variable speed power transmission belt drive apparatus wherein a pair of asymmetric cross section drive belts are utilized in conjunction with complementary sheaves, including a pair of axially adjustably spaced outer sheaves and an intermediate sheave. The outwardly facing side faces of the intermediate sheave are substantially planar and substantially perpendicular to the axis of the shaft on which the pulley is mounted. The inwardly facing surfaces of the outer sheaves are conical and the side surfaces of the belts are complementary to the confronting faces of the sheaves. Fluid pressure structure is provided for applying substantially equal forces to the speed-adjusting sheaves in effecting the speed-adjusting operation. In the illustrated embodiment, the angled surfaces of the belts and outer sheaves extend at an angle in the range of approximately 5.degree. to 30.degree.

  • Patent number: 4568315
Abstract: A variable speed pulley mounted to a torque transmission shaft having an idler structure arranged to maintain the power transmission belt centered between the pulley sheaves when the sheaves are spaced apart sufficiently to permit the belt to ride on the idler as in a stopped or idling condition of the pulley system. A tension roller may be utilized in the system for urging the belt against the outer surface of the idler, which, in the illustrated embodiment, is crowned. Structure is provided for affording facilitated adjustable movement of the adjustable sheave on the shaft, and in one embodiment, provision is made for providing lubrication therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4505073
Abstract: An apparatus and method of sorting power transmission belts into groups of substantially equal length. The apparatus is entirely automatic and includes mechanism for transferring seriatim the respective belts from a supply to a measuring drive mechanism. The belt being measured is driven under tension and the length and rideout concurrently determined and fed to a computer. In the event the belt is found to be outsized but capable of being brought into the desired range by grinding the sides thereof, grinding mechanism of the apparatus is actuated to adjust the configuration suitably. The apparatus includes mechanism for discarding outsized belts which cannot be so adjusted. The apparatus includes mechanism for transferring the belts from the measuring drive system to a conveyor and associated mechanism for sorting the measured belts as a function of a signal provided by the computer.
