  • Patent number: 4773274
Abstract: An electromagnetic flow meter for measuring the flow rate of a fluid by applying to the fluid a magnetic field generated with an exciting current and measuring the resulting signal voltage generated at a pair of electrodes; wherein the exciting current comprises two frequency components which are lower and higher than the usual commercial frequency and the signal voltage comprises two frequencies which are discriminated so that a higher frequency is extracted as a first output and a lower frequency is extracted as a second output, through a low pass filter having a large time constant. A predetermined operation, such as addition, zero correction, response correction, etc, is carried out on the first and second outputs to produce a flow rate output. The invention has quick response, stable zero point and reduced susceptibility to noises.

  • Patent number: 4680973
Abstract: In an electromagnetic flow meter converter comprising a deviation amplifier for amplifying the deviation between a feedback signal and an input signal from a flow rate detector, and a converter circuit for converting the amplified output of the deviation amplifier into a frequency signal, the improvement comprising a frequency divider for frequency dividing the frequency signal, a digital setting unit for setting the frequency dividing factor of the frequency divider, and a multiplier for multiplying the output of the frequency divider by a comparison voltage which is proportional to the current applied to the coil of the flow rate detector to provide the feedback signal, whereby the span is set digitally and whereby the compatibility between the converter and the flow rate detector is obtained by setting the product of the meter constant of the flow rate detector and a predetermined maximum flow velocity.

  • Patent number: 4663976
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter using an exciting current of a rectangular wave form supplied to an exciting coil for excitation, wherein a DC voltage produced by rectifying a frequency power source, is applied by way of a voltage regulating circuit to an exciting circuit, and a switching device is connected in series between the exciting circuit and the voltage regulating circuit and is controlled by a DC reference voltage determining the level of the exciting voltage and a timing signal determining the switching timing for the exciting current. The invention enables accurate and rapid control of the waveform of the exciting current, reduces costs, and can be used for different voltages without any substantial change of circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4218915
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter for measuring the flow rate of a fluid passing through a flow tube, the fluid intercepting a magnetic field established by an excitation coil supplied through an excitation circuit with a direct current or a current whose frequency is lower than that of a commercial AC power source. A DC reference voltage is derived from the excitation circuit which is either used in a feedback arrangement to maintain the excitation current constant or in a divider arrangement to correct for the adverse effects of fluctuations in the excitation current of the flow rate signal yielded by the flowmeter.

  • Patent number: 4181019
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter in which a low-frequency rectangular wave is supplied to the electromagnet coil of the flowmeter to produce an excitation current establishing a magnetic field which is intercepted by the fluid passing through the flow tube to induce a signal voltage in the electrodes disposed in the tube. This signal voltage is proportional to flow rate and is accompanied by an objectionable D-C noise component. To eliminate this noise component, the signal voltage is passed through a first high-pass filter, and to compensate for errors introduced by this filter, the signal voltage derived from the first filter is divided by a comparison voltage derived from the excitation current, but only after this comparison voltage passes through a second high-pass filter having essentially the same characteristics as the first filter.

  • Patent number: 4117721
Abstract: A magnetic flowmeter whose electromagnet is excited by a low-frequency excitation current having an a-c component and a d-c component, the flowmeter including flow tube electrodes yielding a flow rate signal. A reference-voltage detecting transformer is provided to produce a reference-voltage proportional to the a-c component of the excitation current. Fluctuations in the flow rate signal as a result of fluctuations in the a-c component of the excitation current are eliminated by dividing the flow rate signal by the reference-voltage signal. In order to eliminate from the reference-voltage detecting transformer the unwanted magnetic flux generated by the d-c component of the excitation current, compensating means are provided to generate a counter magnetic flux, whereby saturation of the transformer core and the resultant distortion of the reference voltage signal are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4059014
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter in which the fluid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube where it intersects a magnetic field established by an electromagnet. A pair of electrodes each having a relatively large surface area are mounted at diametrically-opposed positions in the flow tube whereby the electromotive force induced in the fluid and detected by the electrodes when the fluid velocity profile is non-uniform, is averaged and an electromotive force proportional to average flow velocity is obtained.

  • Patent number: 3996797
Abstract: A magnetic flowmeter wherein liquid to be metered is conducted through a flow tube to intersect a transverse magnetic field established by an electromagnet. The voltage induced in the fluid is transferred to a pair of electrodes mounted at diametrically-opposed positions on the flow tube. The electromagnet is energized by a low-frequency wave which is produced by applying the output of a full-wave rectifier to the excitation coils of the electromagnet through a switching element. The switching element acts to chop the full-wave rectified output in accordance with high-frequency pulses whose frequency is higher than that of a commercial electric power line, the duty cycle thereof being modulated by a low-frequency, sinusoidal wave whose frequency is less than that of the commercial line.
