  • Patent number: 4787342
Abstract: A V-6 engine has left and right cylinder banks which have three cylinders each and are set to each other at an angle .alpha. not larger than about 30.degree.. The positions of the crankpins for connecting the pistons in the respective cylinders with the crankshaft are so arranged that the crankpins for the three cylinders in each cylinder bank are positioned to differ from each other in phase by 120.degree., and the crankpins for each pair of cylinders which are symmetrically disposed with respect to the longitudinal center C of the crankshaft are positioned to differ from each other in phase by the angle .alpha. so that the pistons in the cylinders of each pair reach the respective top dead centers simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4785786
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with a fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve is actuated so that fuel injected therefrom reaches the combustion chamber in the latter half of the intake stroke, thereby accomplishing stratified charge. The timing at which blow-back of intake gas occurs is detected and the timing for terminating fuel injection is advanced as the timing at which blow-back of intake gas occurs becomes earlier.

  • Patent number: 4699097
Abstract: An engine has an output shaft which is connected with a generator and a motor. A control device is provided to operate the generator in a high output torque period and to operate the motor in a low output torque period in an operating cycle of the engine. Thus, the generator applies a negative torque to the output shaft whereas the motor applies a positive torque to the output shaft to thereby moderate the output torque fluctuations.

  • Patent number: 4620519
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with a separately formed intake passage for each cylinder. Each intake passage is provided with a fuel injection valve. The fuel injection valve is controlled to inject fuel in the latter half of the intake stroke of the corresponding cylinder. The amount of fuel injected from the fuel injection valve is increased upon acceleration of the engine by an amount which is separately determined for each cylinder and is generally reduced in the order of the firing order.

  • Patent number: 4589396
Abstract: A supercharger control in an automobile engine comprising an intake passage having an air pump for supercharging air to be fed to the engine, a bypass passage bypassing the air pump and having a control valve for opening and closing the bypass passage, an electromagnetic clutch for selectively coupling and decoupling the air pump with and from an output shaft of the engine, and a control device for controlling both the air pump and the control valve in dependence on the degree of requirement for acceleration represented by the load on the engine or the position of an automobile transmission.

  • Patent number: 4134376
Abstract: An exhaust gas recycling system for use in an internal combustion engine in which downstream exhaust gas recycling is started when the carburetor throttle valve is opened larger than a first predetermined opening degree, while upstream exhaust gas recycling is commenced when the carburetor throttle valve is opened larger than a second predetermined opening degree. The second predetermined opening degree is set at a level exceeding at least a maximum amount or peak value of the downstream exhaust gas recycling, and thereafter, reduction of downstream exhaust gas recycling ratio following decrease of intake negative pressure at the downstream of the carburetor throttle valve is compensated by increase of the upstream exhaust gas recycling augmented in proportion to the intake amount of the air-fuel mixture, through employment of flow rate control valves for the upstream and downstream exhaust gas recycling.
