  • Patent number: 4595363
Abstract: A device for opening and closing a chuck for a dental handpiece has a handle portion and a powerhead assembly including a hollow driving shaft having, adjacent to its outer orifice, a forwardly outwardly tapering portion defining a small diameter rear portion and a large diameter front portion. A hollow cylindrical chuck has a forwardly outwardly tapering outer peripheral surface joining a small diameter rear surface and a large diameter front surface corresponding to the respective driving shaft portions. The chuck is slidably inserted into the driving shaft. Three radial openings are formed at equally spaced positions in the forwardly outwardly tapering outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical chuck. A plate-shaped chucking die having a concave bottom surface is slidably fitted into each radial opening to hold a dental tool.

  • Patent number: 4533324
Abstract: An air driven dental handpiece has a turbine housing mounted on one end of a handle and an outwardly and upwardly tapered annular surface around the inner bottom surface of the housing. A turbine cartridge is removably mounted in the turbine housing and has an outwardly and upwardly tapered annular surface around the periphery of the bottom thereof abutting the tapered annular surface on the inner surface of the housing and an outwardly facing outwardly and downwardly tapered annular surface around the periphery of the top. An air turbine is rotatably mounted in ball bearings in the turbine cartridge, the turbine being resiliently mounted in the cartridge in the direction of the length of the turbine shaft.

  • Patent number: 4493645
Abstract: A device for opening and closing a chuck for a dental handpiece has a handle portion and a powerhead assembly including a hollow driving shaft having, adjacent to its front end, a fowardly outwardly tapering portion joining a small diameter rear portion and a large diameter front portion. A disc-shaped chucking die is slidably fitted into each radial opening to hold a dental tool. A chuck pusher is held in a socket with a disc plate spring interposed between the socket and the chuck pusher, and the pusher is movable for axially displacing the chuck to hold or release the dental tool.

  • Patent number: 4403956
Abstract: A dental handpiece including a powerhead assembly connected to an outer sleeve handle portion in which is located a sleeve bearing, a rotatable, disconnectable connecting means being provided in the sleeve bearing. A first optical fiberscope extends from the front end portion of the powerhead near the dental tool into the front end of the sleeve bearing adjacent to the front end of the connecting means. A thickened fiberscope abuts the rear end of the first fiberscope and extends rearward through the handpiece to a light source. Cavities, passages and pipes are provided in the sleeve bearing and connecting means in order to provide a smooth flow of compressed air, chip air, water and exhaust to or from the powerhead assembly while permitting the sleeve bearing and connecting means to rotate relative to each other about the longitudinal axis of the handpiece.

  • Patent number: 4371341
Abstract: The present dental handpiece generally comprises a handle portion, a powerhead assembly integrally and perpendicularly linked to the handle portion, a bushing integrally inserted into the handle portion, a rotating driving shaft journaled for rotation by means of a sleeve in the bushing, the rotating driving shaft having an integral circular disc at its top end portion, the circular disc carrying around its periphery a pinion lug which is parallel to both the disc and the rotating driving shaft, a hollow cylinder kept in motion inside the powerhead assembly at its top end held by a bushing and at its lower end by a bushing cap respectively, the rotating driving shaft having an arc-shaped longitudinal slot, a roller bearing slidably inserted into the slot and the pinion lug being slidably inserted into the central horizontal opening of the roller bearing to couple the rotating driving shaft to the rotating driven shaft whereby a drilling tool is driven to rotate in one direction and in the opposite direction a

  • Patent number: 4353697
Abstract: An air-powered dental handpiece and a connecting means comprises a handle portion and a powerhead assembly. A sleeve bearing having a forwardly reducing cylindrical internal surface is integrally held into another end opening of the handle portion. The surface has three stepped annular space walls, and a central air supply passage and two axial passages for exhaust and water are provided to extend to the stepped annular space walls. An air supply pipe is fixedly inserted into the central passage and two pipes are fixedly inserted into two passages. A front portion of a connecting means is so formed into a forwardly reducing cylindrical plug as to fit into a socket of the sleeve bearing.

  • Patent number: 4202102
Abstract: A device of this invention for opening and closing a chuck for a dental handpiece comprises a housing and an output shaft rotatably journalled in the housing. A cylindrical hollow is formed axially from a top end portion into the output shaft and a plurality of openings are formed at equally spaced portions around said shaft near an innermost portion of the hollow. A truncated cone-shaped column having a conical surface is firmly inserted into the innermost hollow of the output shaft to define a space for a small metallic driving ball. The small driving ball is rotatably inserted into each opening of said output shaft, and a large metallic driven ball is rotatably inserted into the hollow to abut against these small driving balls. A ball control sleeve having a tapering inner periphery is slidably fitted on the output shaft to locate at the openings.
