  • Patent number: 5223556
Abstract: Resin compositions having excellent mechanical strength, especially at high temperatures are disclosed. The resin compositions comprise 95-60 wt. % of an aromatic polyetherketone having recurring units represented by the following formula: ##STR1## 5-40 wt. % of a polyetherimide having recurring units represented by the following formula: ##STR2## Also disclosed are fiber-reinforced resins, which comprise 75-55 wt. % of one of the above compositions and 25-45 wt. % of carbon fibers obtained by coating starting carbon fibers with an aromatic polysulfone resin and then heating the thus-coated carbon fibers at 300.degree.-400.degree. C., and mechanical components made of desired one of the fiber-reinforced resins which are suitable for use in internal combustion engines or auxiliary equipment.

  • Patent number: 4772096
Abstract: An inventive light-shader can prevent reduction of contrast ratio of views in a display, generation of moires and devastion of images in the views. The light-shader is made up of a light-shading film and a light-transmissive substrate plate. The film includes a plurality of opaque walls standing along its thickness and defining corresponding light-transmissive cells. The light-transmissive substrate plate has one surface attached to one surface of the film and the other surface microscopically rugged. The light-shader is applicable to automotive television sets, computer displays, indicative plates of various meters of automotive vehicles, ships and airplanes, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4709988
Abstract: Disclosed is a light-shield board for placement in front of a visual display device such as a cathode-ray tube in a television set or an information system. The light-shield board comprises a transparent substrate and an opaque film which is bonded to the substrate and is formed with a number of substantially uniformly distributed light-transmitting apertures, which may be rectangular apertures arranged in a checkered pattern. So, the opaque film comprises wall-like parts respectively partitioning the apertures. The apertures are bored obliquely such that at least a selected portion of the wall-like parts of the film are unidirectionally inclined from a plane normal to the film. Besides the function of restricting the angle of incidence of extraneous light on the display screen, this light-shield board serves the purpose of controlling the angles of diffusion of light from the display screen and hence enabling to sight the display screen from limited directions only.

  • Patent number: 4708908
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved surface-hardening coating on a plastic body such as a plastic lens. The surface-hardening coating consists of a hard-coat layer of a polymer base composition and an underlying primer layer, which contains an ultraviolet absorber low in the bleeding tendency amounting to 0.5-50 wt % of the plastic component of the primer. A triazole having a vapor pressure not higher than 1.times.10.sup.-5 KPa at 100.degree. C. is preferred as the ultraviolet absorber. The introduction of such an ultraviolet absorber into the primer layer has the effect of greatly enhancing the durability and weatherability of the coating without sacrificing the surface hardness.

  • Patent number: 4231900
Abstract: A mixture is prepared by mixing alumina sol and activated alumina which contains not less than 60 Wt % of delta-alumina. The mixture is thereafter coated on a relatively small specific surface area monolithic catalyst carrier. After being dried, the coated carrier is fired to give a high specific surface area catalyst carrier.
