  • Patent number: 8553190
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device has a wiring electrode and an independent gap electrode without wiring formed on a substrate, and an insulating film formed on the wiring and gap electrodes. A first display electrode, an outer second display electrode, and an inner second display electrode are formed on the insulating film and are electrically connected to the wiring electrode or the gap electrode via respective contact regions provided in the insulating film. The first display electrode overlaps with an edge portion of the gap electrode through intermediation of the insulating film. The outer second display electrode and the inner second display electrode each overlap with another edge portion of the gap electrode through intermediation of the insulating film. By such a construction, the wiring electrode is prevented from being visible or from having portions thereof being half-lit.

  • Publication number: 20110267568
Abstract: To prevent a wiring electrode from being visible or prevent a part of the wiring electrode from being half-lit, a wiring electrode (4) and an independent gap electrode (5) without wiring are formed, an insulating film (6) is formed thereon, and a display electrode (7), an outer second display electrode (8a), and an inner second display electrode (8b) are formed thereon. The display electrode (7), the outer second display electrode (8a), and the inner second display electrode (8b) are electrically connected to the wiring electrode (4) or the gap electrode (5) via respective contact regions provided in the insulating film (6). The display electrode (7) is formed so as to overlap with an edge portion of the gap electrode (5) through intermediation of the insulating film (6). Further, the outer second display electrode (8a) and the inner second display electrode (8b) are each formed so as to overlap with another edge portion of the gap electrode (5) through intermediation of the insulating film (6).

  • Patent number: 6160594
Abstract: A structure of a liquid crystal device cutting down the power consumption is materialized. In a liquid crystal display device comprising at least two display portions of a dot matrix portion and an icon portion in the same panel, drive is carried out such that both of the display portions are displayed in a normal operation mode and, only the icon portion is displayed in a power-saving operation mode such as when the liquid crystal display device is waiting for operation or is standby. In the power-saving operation mode, the duty ratios of all of the display portions in the power-saving operation mode are lower than those in the normal operation mode, and time shared drive waveforms using the power source voltage as it is which does not require bias voltage are applied.

  • Patent number: 6130734
Abstract: A liquid crystal device comprises a liquid crystal cell having a liquid crystal material sandwiched between a pair of substrates, the liquid crystal material having a retardation less than 1 .mu.m, a polymer film comprised of an optically anisotropic substance disposed on one of the substrates opposite the liquid crystal material, a color polarizing plate disposed on the polymer film opposite the one substrate, and a polarizing plate disposed on the other of the substrates opposite the liquid crystal material. The liquid crystal material preferably comprises a super twisted nematic liquid crystal material, and the color polarizing plate preferably comprises a red, green or blue polarizing plate.

  • Patent number: 5748162
Abstract: A liquid crystal device capable of being driven on a time division basis includes a liquid crystal panel sandwiching a liquid crystal layer having a twisted helical structure and preferably being disposed inside a pair of opposing polarizers, and a driving circuit for driving the liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal layer if formed of a nematic liquid crystal material having a helical structure twisted by at least 180 degrees and the panel is driven on a time division driving basis in which the bias ratio is no less than 1/4 and no greater than 1/2. The driving voltage needed for operation of the liquid crystal device can thereby be substantially decreased.
