  • Patent number: 5212699
Abstract: A laser diode assembly capable of controlling a temperature of a laser diode chip with a high accuracy. A Peltier device is mounted on a base member, and a carrier is mounted on the Peltier device. On the carrier are mounted the laser diode chip, a thermistor, and a relay block. A terminal for connecting the thermistor to an external circuit is provided so as to extend through the base member. The thermistor and the relay block are connected together by wire bonding, and the relay block and the terminal are also connected together by wire bonding. The laser diode assembly further includes a control circuit for controlling a driving current for the Peltier device contacting with the carrier so as to maintain a resistance of the thermistor fixed on the carrier at a constant value.

  • Patent number: 5150230
Abstract: A rod lens fixing method which can prevent the generation of cracks in a rod lens due to annealing to be carried out after welding a lens assembly. The rod lens fixing method includes the steps of providing a flanged split sleeve having an axial slit extending continuously from one end of the flanged split sleeve to the other end thereof, the axial slit being wide enough at least a flange of the flanged split sleeve to permit laser welding; press-fitting the rod lens into the flanged split sleeve; and applying a solder into the axial slit to solder the rod lens to the flange split sleeve. This method further includes the steps of inserting the flanged split sleeve into a bore formed at one end portion of a sleeve, the bore having a diameter larger than an outer diameter of the flanged split sleeve and smaller than an outer diameter of the flange; and laser-welding the flange to one end surface of the sleeve at a plurality of points on an outer circumference of the flange and in the axial slit.

  • Patent number: 5023447
Abstract: A photo-semiconductor module is disclosed wherein a reliable airtight condition can be obtained and an operability in assembly can be improved. The photo-semiconductor module comprises a substrate carried in a casing, a photo-semiconductor chip mounted on the substrate, and a support member carried on the substrate and having an inclined face which is inclined by an angle of 45 degrees with respect to a surface of the substrate. A semi-spherical lens is securely mounted on the inclined face of the support member, and an opening formed in a side wall of the casing is sealed airtight by a glass member while an upper portion of the casing is sealed airtight by a lid. When an optical fiber is mounted onto the casing such that an end face thereof may be located in the opening in the side wall of the casing, the optical fiber and the photo-semiconductor chip are optically coupled to each other by way of the semi-spherical lens.

  • Patent number: 4839993
Abstract: A polishing machine for polishing the end faces of ferrules supporting coaxially aligned optical fibers to be connected in an optical fiber connector. The machine has a polishing disk composed of a rotating disk with a flat face, a rubber plate fixed on the rotating disk, and a thin metal elastic plate mounted on the rubber plate. The surface of the polishing disk is capable of being indented when the end face of a ferrule is pressed against the surface of the polishing disk. So, by passing the end face of the ferrule against the rotating polishing disk, and rotating the ferrule around its axis alternately to the left and right, the end face of the ferrule is polished approximately spherically. A revolving motion may be included for the ferrule. The curvature of the polished end face is determined by the force used to press the ferrule toward the polisher and the elasticity for the polishing disk.
