  • Patent number: 5733982
Abstract: Disclosed are a carbonate group-modified epoxy resin in which carbonate groups are introduced into an epoxy resin having secondary hydroxyl groups at terminals or lactone-modified epoxy resin having primary hydroxyl groups at terminals by the ring-opening reaction of a cyclic alkylene carbonate, a process for the preparation thereof, and a thermosetting resin composition containing the carbonate group-modified epoxy resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 1996
Date of Patent: March 31, 1998
Assignees: Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd., Nippon Paint Co., Ltd.
Inventors: Takaaki Fujiwa, Takeharu Tabuchi, Hideki Matsui, Shinji Nakano, Shin-ya Yamada, Takao Morimoto
  • Patent number: 5658989
Abstract: A hydroxy-terminated linear carbonate is produced by reacting a cyclic alkylene carbonate such as neopentyl glycol carbonate with a substance having at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group in the presence of a catalyst. Mono- or polyhydric alphatic alcohols, polycaprolactone polyols, hydroxyl group-containing acrylic monomers and polymers, and polyester polyols are modified by the reaction with the cyclic alkylene carbonate to have an enhanced reactivity and resistance to hydrolysis.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 12, 1996
Date of Patent: August 19, 1997
Assignees: Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd., Nippon Paint Co., Ltd.
Inventors: Shinji Nakano, Takao Morimoto, Shin-ya Yamada, Takaaki Fujiwa, Hideki Matsui, Takeharu Tabuchi
  • Patent number: 5650532
Abstract: A novel acrylic monomer is produced by addition reacting a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate or its lactone adduct with a cyclic alkylene carbonate, and then acylating the terminal hydroxyl group of the reaction product with a reactive derivative of a monobasic alkanoic acid or a dicarboxylic acid anhydride.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 1995
Date of Patent: July 22, 1997
Assignees: Nippon Paint Company, Ltd., Daicel Chemical Industries, Ltd.
