  • Patent number: 5563620
Abstract: An installation arrangement for a head up display for an automotive vehicle has an installment panel which mounts a head up display unit. The installment panel is mounted in a vehicle body such that the display unit is suitably disposed on the driver's side. The head up display is reflected through an opening in a top side of the installment panel to be reflected on a reflective portion of a windshield panel. A wall portion of the installment panel has an access opening for allowing servicing of the display unit. The installation is arranged such that the access opening is covered by a meter and a meter lid for which the display is operative. Thus good appearance is maintained while servicing is simplified.

  • Patent number: 5531471
Abstract: A air bag and lid arrangement for a vehicle passenger compartment is mounted in an opening in a vehicle instrument panel with an air bag module being mounted on a bracket associated with a steering member. A top edge of the opening has a facing portion corresponding to a flange formed on a top edge of a lid. When the lid is attached over the opening it is situated such that, when the air bag inflates, pressure is applied by the surface of the air bag to an inner surface of the lid proximate the flange causing the flange to act as a hinge for opening the lid with substantially no time lag between the inflation of the air bag and the opening of the lid. The lid is further positioned such that impact applied to an outer surface of thereof will not damage the air bag module.

  • Patent number: 5437470
Abstract: A lid structure for an air bag system capable of preventing passengers on a vehicle from injuring themselves by inflating an air bag when the vehicle crashes. The lid structure includes a main opening and a sub opening through which the air bag can inflate outside of an instrumental panel. A main lid is provided for closing the main opening and a sub lid is provided for closing the sub opening. The sub lid is formed from a weakened part of the instrumental panel and is easily broken by the inflating force of the air bag. To avoid removal of the sub lid from the panel a deformable attachment is secured to the sub lid and the instrument panel.

  • Patent number: 5273310
Abstract: An instrument panel assembly for an automotive vehicle includes a main panel having first and second openings formed therethrough. An air bag unit is mounted in the first, upper opening and a vehicle glove box is fitted in the second lower opening. A steering member is disposed behind the main panel and mounts the air bag unit. The first opening is closed by a lid which is retained by a lock associated with a bracket for guiding an inflation direction of an air bag. A vent duct is disposed in a space between the first and second openings proximate the steering member such that the steering member and the ductwork act so as to isolate the air bag unit, a vehicle air conditioning unit and the glove box from each other to assure reliable operation of all components with a simple low cost instrument panel assembly.
