  • Patent number: 5552030
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of applying a magnetic thin film on a substrate by alloy electroplating in which the alloy content in the deposition is defined by an electric current density in the course of the plating operation. The magnetic thin film is superior in uniformity and formability on a complicated substrate. The method comprises the step of changing the electric current density from a low value to a high value, and vice versa at predetermined intervals during plating to laminate different alloy-content plated layers into a multilayer thin film, and improving the magnetic characteristics of the film by heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 5193820
Abstract: A three-piece type oil ring assembly adapted to be fitted in an oil ring groove of a piston disposed within a cylinder comprises a spacer expander in the form of a gapped annulus made of section steel having substantially H-shaped radial cross section, and a pair of upper and lower side rails, each in the form of a gapped flat annulus. The spacer expander includes an axially protruding outer portion disposed on the outer circumference thereof and facing the inner surface of the cylinder, an axially protruding inner portion disposed on the inner circumference thereof and facing the innermost wall of the oil ring groove, and an axially flat connecting portion extending between the outer and inner protruding portions. The outer protruding portion has side rail supporting surfaces formed on the upper and lower ends thereof so as to be inclined toward the axially symmetrical centerline thereof along the radial direction at an acute angle with the radial direction.

  • Patent number: 5124007
Abstract: A composite plating bath prepared by adding an agent of boron compounds, such as trimethylamine-borane, dimethylamine-borane and sodium borohydride, by an amount of 0.1 to 10 grams/liter, preferably 1 to 8 grams/liter to a usual nickel electroplating bath having an aqueous acidic solution of at least one nickel salt and micron size particles of at least one water-insoluble material.

  • Patent number: 5104132
Abstract: A piston ring for use in an internal combustion engine. The piston ring includes a base body, a nitriding layer formed at an outer peripheral surface portion of the base body, and a composite Ni-B diffusion plating layer formed over the nitriding layer. The composite Ni-B diffusion plating layer has a thickness ranging from 0.5 to 20 micron meters. Since the nitriding layer is provided on at least the sliding surface of the piston ring, high durability of the piston ring can be attained because of the high wear resistivity of the nitriding layer. Further, since a Ni-Bi composite dispersion plating layer is formed over the nitriding layer, abnormal wearing due to scuffing is avoidable at an initial working phase because of the high scuffing resistance of the composite plating layer.

  • Patent number: 4743132
Abstract: A paper feed device of the invention comprises a transport gear connected in coaxial relationship to a transport roller interposed in a paper transporting route, a change-over arm which is rocked within a predetermined fixed range when the direction of rotation of a bidirectionally rotatable platen is reversed, and an idler gear mounted at a rocking free end of the change-over arm and connected to be normally rotated by power transmitted from the platen. The idler gear is selectively meshed with the transport gear in response to a rocking motion of the change-over arm, whereby a turning force of the platen is transmitted to the transport roller to transport paper only when the platen is rotated in one direction. Such a manner of transmission of rotation is attained without the necessity of a one-way clutch.

  • Patent number: 4473232
Abstract: In an oil scraper ring in which an expander is arranged on the inner peripheral surface of an oil scraper ring proper, the oil scraper ring is manufactured to present the configuration of a perfect circle in its unstressed state with a free engaging gap cut into the ring.
