  • Publication number: 20090080424
Abstract: A packet communication system of the present invention has first mode, second mode and third mode to apply to input packets. The first mode is a mode that decides priority of the packet by at least one of the address information and the application information, the second mode is a mode that decides priority of the packet by the DS value, the third mode is a mode that decides rewrite the DS value by at least one of the address information and the application information. A control unit of the packet communication system switches a mode to apply an input packet of the first mode, the second mode and the third mode based on the packet header information of the input packet.

  • Publication number: 20080316924
Abstract: A shaping unit includes FIFOS for accumulating a packet which is so designed as to arrive at a destination address. A packet (ordinary packet), which has one destination address, is accumulated into the FIFO corresponding to the one destination address. A packet (virtual multicast packet), which will be copied in the downstream of the shaping unit then to arrive at two destination addresses, is accumulated into either of the FIFOS. A packet read unit transmits the virtual multicast packet, which is read from either of the FIFOs, and the ordinary packet, which is read from the one of the FIFOS, to a multiplexing circuit in such a manner that total bandwidth of both packets is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20080298234
Abstract: In a bandwidth policing apparatus which accommodates a large number of user groups, bandwidth policing for each user group is performed at high speed. When there is any extra bandwidth in bandwidth for a user group, the contracted committed information rate for each user is guaranteed invariably while using this effectively. The bandwidth policing apparatus accumulates packets of a plurality of user groups under bandwidth policing in the same packet accumulate FIFO. Also, for a packet which does not exceed the contracted bandwidth for each user, the contracted bandwidth for each user is guaranteed by deciding that the packet does not exceed the contracted bandwidth for each user group.

  • Patent number: 7376085
Abstract: Every router in a network is provided with flow detecting means that detects a flow from a packet header of a packet so as to perform such packet processings as bandwidth monitoring, priority-based transferring, statistical information collecting with respect to each packet flow. Receiving a packet from a site, an edge router detects the packet flow and writes a flow identifier in the packet. Each flow identifier is uniquely decided in the network. The Internet router performs such packet processings as bandwidth monitoring, priority-based transferring, statistical information collecting with respect to each flow according to the flow identifier. The present invention can thus prevent the network from degradation of transferring performance caused by the flow detecting means of a backbone router.

  • Publication number: 20070177599
Abstract: A packet forwarding apparatus 200 transmits an inputted packet A to a first output port that is one of a plurality of output ports and transmits a dummy packet A storing the packet length of packet A to the other output port. A shaping unit 100-1 corresponding to the first output port uses the packet length of the packet A and a shaping unit 100-2 corresponding to the port other than the first output port uses a packet length in the dummy packet A so as to control the bandwidth of the packet A to be transmitted, thus controlling the total bandwidth of the packet A.

  • Publication number: 20070091911
Abstract: A packet forwarding apparatus is provided which can minimize traffic detoured to a backup path liable to be degraded in communication quality in the event of a link failure to thereby improve the communication quality. To this end, a technique is provided in which an output label decision unit and an output physical port ordinal number search unit which are included in a destination decision unit decide, from a header of an input packet, an output label of the packet, a first logical link to which the packet is to be outputted and a first physical link constituting the first logical link. When a failure takes place in the first physical link, the detour decision unit changes the output label to a backup label and the first physical link to a second physical link constituting a second logical link.

  • Patent number: 7167474
Abstract: A network relaying apparatus and method for routing and transferring packets at high speed. A transfer engine stores the packets received through a network interface in a packet buffer, and stores the header information in a header RAM. A search engine searches the transfer control information including the transfer destination information and the action information in accordance with the header information, and writes it in the header RAM. The transfer engine produces an output packet based on the information stored in the packet buffer and the header RAM and outputs it to the transfer destination. A switch switches the output packet to the routing process of the destination. The transfer engine executes the receiving process and the transmission process, and the search engine executes the input search process and the output search process. Each of these processes is executed by pipelining control using a required table independently.
